Formation of ACE Committee(s)

In attempting to pull off another full blown ACE this year vs waiting until next year...I'd like to see if it is possible to form a committee to deal with some of the nitty gritty items of attack.

Those being garnering interest from recruiters and getting them signed, getting news out to media and aviation professionals, fundraising/SPONSORSHIP opportunities, getting sales vendors signed up, as well as planning for the day of event activities (education sequencing, flaw resolutions from 2010, tour scheduling, volunteer scheduling, registration setup and all that).

Is anyone interested in -- seriously -- being apart of the action?

Keep in mind that this is not something that you can wait on until the last minute so please keep your schedules in mind and how much time your participation may take...you will be responsible for the end result of your participation because 3 of us cannot plan it all again.

Speaking of signing on recruiters, has anyone spoken to any of their companies about attending this year or better yet, sponsoring, if we are able to put another ACE in the hat?

One big part of pulling this off is to try and get all funding in house well ahead of time (booths/education agreed upon and deposited, sponsorships!!!!, etc) as our credit is currently still being paid off and we have none to put forth, at this time.

JC is, but ACE is not. We try to break even on ACE and play a not-for-profit ideal but fell way behind this past year, even with the overflow.
 
Kristie, I'd love to help, primarily with day off assistance(i.e. registration)! I just need to see if I'll be able to pull some time off or not :)
 
I am willing to help, but I can not give a time frame yet as it would have to wait till after my job hunt and training is finished.

I'm confused by this answer. Is ACE for-profit or a non-profit entity? If it's non-profit, you can solicit volunteers. If it's a for-profit entity, volunteers are not allowed under the FLSA.

I was wondering the same thing. But, most airline pilots are used to working for free (preflights etc) so I'm sure it will work out.
 
But that's too much risk for them. The government needs money. They don't like companies breaking the law and not paying people and not paying taxes. The one thing the administration did beef up is enforcement of labor law violations. Working for free for a for-profit=slavery. Don't go there, imho.

Seems to be working just fine for the airlines and they aren't in any trouble.
 
Please explain what airlines are using unpaid volunteers. And please explain how you know that they aren't in trouble if they did and how you know that the government is not adhering to its stated enforcement guidelines (publicized on the EEOC website).

I was under the impression that many airlines weren't paying their employees for doing pre flights, or pre flight planning.

I'd love to hear that I'm wrong, but I was under the impression the clock started counting at either door closure or engine start.
 
ACE is a function hosted by JC until it can hold its own....so far, JC profits and credit have been paying for ACE yet we hold ACE as a not-for-profit function. There's a difference between not-for-profit and non-profit. We don't ever plan to make a profit with ACE, we plan to break even. We pay our taxes with no problem every year simply because until now, ACE & NJC have been under the JC name. I'd love to see ACE become a sustainable function outside of JC but at the moment, that's not feasible.

if ACE has to be classified as for-profit simply because it falls under the JC profit/budget structure then what? we need to break it out from JC, make it it's own venture and continue down the road into the not-for-profit sector? because my understanding is that for-profit and not-for-profit are classified the same whereas for-profit/not-for-profit and non-profit are different.

I'll have to do a little more research, it looks like.
 
Certainly, it may be quite useful to 'lose' income on ACE but to form a 501C is a whole 'nother story which is a bit more difficult to pull off considering it is an employment event focused on drinking and partying.
 
Volunteers will get free access to ACE, right? That should meet the definition of compensation (at first glance) .
