Foreign Airline Pilot Training vs. U.S. Training

I graduated college in '07 and one of the last classes I took was with a certain prof that had the most combat missions over 'Nam in the F4. Great guy, he ran a successful FBO after his Air Force career.

But I digress, I had him for GA Ops and some of the numbers he threw out there was basically that from the early 80s to the 06-07 time frame nearly half of all private FBOs had gone under. And this was pre-recession.

Later I moved to Florida to get my initial instruction experience etc. Of course down there GA is very lively. But I also worked for a 91k operator and did ferry work traveling to various small GA airports. Point is after I got out of Florida and the South, general aviation is/was a ghost town. Nothing but empty hangers rusty planes and other relics of a bygone era. :/
