Foreflight or Garmin Pilot?

I've never used Garmin Pilot.

I do really like Foreflight, though. I'd like it better if it integrated Jepp charts vs. NOS - I'm still very much an IR newbie but learning to study both, I do prefer Jepp. NOS is what FF supports, though, so I'm using them.

Anyway - FF is a very stable app. Does what it says on the tin.

I personally use foreflight since I have an iPad mini. But some of my students use te garmin app. In my limited experience, I've found foreflight to be more user friendly.

I've used both, I prefer Foreflight. The Garmin product seemed to crash a lot on android or IOS. I used foreflight for years before landing a position where the department used Garmin. After giving demo's of foreflight, the flight department switched and my co-workers feel the same way I do. YMMV

Which OS do you run your devices on? That makes a world of difference, as Foreflight is an iOS only option. That said, I run Garmin Pilot on my iPhone, because prior to having an iPhone, I had android. And 1 subscription allows me to go between my iPhone and my android tablet as I want to.

This is like asking Pepsi or Coke (Coke), I am an android user and use Garmin Pilot. I am a little familiar with Foreflight. I am very happy with Garmin Pilot. The interface is very similar to other gGarmin aviation products and can be connected with the proper equipment. For example, you can flight plan at home and load into a G3X once you are with the plane. Although the hardware for this feature is not very common. Garmin Pilot in its current version is lightyears away from where it was even a year ago. I use Nexus 7 2nd gen and a Nexus 4 and have had no crashing problems. There are a few features on Foreflight that I like that are absent on Garmin Pilot, such as extended centerlines and the option to overlay on a satellite image instead of a chart or map. For me, those things are nice to
have but not deal breakers.

I haven't used Garmin, but we do use Foreflight.
I love it. You can tell it was designed by pilot people. It's easy, works well, and nicely laid out. Another thing I like about Foreflight is they are constantly improving it. Just when you think they've crammed every useful feature there could be, the next update will include a couple more that are nice.

I agree completely with the Coke or Pepsi analogy. People get excited over individual features but the bottom line is that these are two quality apps (in a field of even more). It's really more about which "feels" right and makes more intuitive sense to you than anything else.

The good news is that all of them have free trials. Take advantage of them.

Foreflight ... All other things equal at least you'll be supporting the little guy.

There's a reason ForeFlight is hands down the #1 seller. WingX is #2. Jeppesen is #3 and Garmin is somewhere below that.

Why would you use a product that isn't #1?

One of our former pilots is an executive VP at ForeFlight now and I can tell you a lot of those guys are very active pilots who have a real passion for flying and making that app better. They intend to stay number one.

"#1 Seller" does not necessarily mean "Better"

I used to say the same thing about Betamax. We know how that ended!
