Foreflight Dispatcher

Foreflight recently post a flight dispatcher position. Any insight as to what the job is like and if it’s a good company to work for/do employees like working there?

Can't speak for how it is since Jepp/Foreflight separated from Boeing. But assuming nothing outside of that has changed, there are three different "desks" (teams) that make up their dispatch department. Military, Executive Flight Ops, and Special Air Missions. Each desk has its own unique set of customers that you'll plan flights for. You won't have operational control since none of the flights operate under Pt. 121. You get to plan flights on a wide variety of aircraft, from a King Air to a C-17, and everything in between. I'm pretty sure most if not all customers have moved over to using ForeFlight Dispatch by now, which is miles ahead of the previous software they used there (Jetplan/MilPlan). Aside from onboarding in DEN, the job is 100% remote. 4 on 3 off, 10 hour shifts.

At one point there was talk of everyone getting security clearances... but I'm not sure if that wound up happening or not. Management is solid, as are 90% of your coworkers. The starting pay range is pretty wide, but most everyone I knew that was there started in the high 70's to mid 80's. Night shift has a massive differential that'll throw your starting pay closer to the top end of that. Pay raises are performance based, as are bonuses if/when the company turns a profit.

Pros:

- Decent Pay
- Good amount of freedom in choosing where you live (within certain limits)
- Solid Healthcare / PTO / Family Benefits

Cons:

- Remote work can be lonely, and a large amount of self discipline in that environment is required.
- Smaller seniority list means it can take a long time to get a desirable shift.
- No standby / jumpseat travel benefits.

If there are any current Foreflight / Jepp folks that want to chime in / correct any of my (likely) outdated info, please do. ;)
