Foreflight Desktop Beta

Exactly what I described in my post.

When I did the departure-destination pair for an upcoming flight in FF, all I got was airway routing. Nothing else. When I did the same pair in FltPlan, I found 5 flight recently cleared by ATC for direct routes.

It was just a follow-up to my earlier comment that, when it comes to this particular function, FltPlan still has a slight edge on ForeFlight. That's all. Just comparing a single feature to explain why I use both services. I've seen the same things numerous times before.

That is interesting.

It seems like both applications support the same function - getting recently cleared routes - but you weren't able to see them in Foreflight whereas you were able to see them in flightplan.

Seems like you should have gotten both.

Not sure why you had that problem. I always get recently cleared ATC routes in FF.

Yeah flying Victor airways in the flight levels is always a great plan. Over in FP I fill out a few boxes and my whole flight is planned, filed and information sent to boarder patrol if I need to.

I do get recently cleared ATC routes in ForeFlight. Never said I didn't.

I just don't get as many as I do in FltPlan and sometimes, as in this example, none at all when FltPlan gives me 4 or 5. I think it has something to do with cleared "direct" routes but I'm not sure of that. Using both gives one a basis for comparison, and it's a difference I have seen for as long as FF has had that functionality.

What you missed showing in your screenshot is that the GVO HABUT route is shown in FltPlan's previously cleared route list (I looked). In this case it might be because it is aged enough that whatever source FF uses,or FF's own algorithm, drops it, but the information remains useful.

You guys are picking the fly poop out of the pepper.

If FF (or Garmin Pilot) is close enough for you, then super groovy. I use GP myself (although would switch to FF if it talked to my GDL39).

Don't forget, FLTPLAN is FREE. That's right, F, R, E, E. I use it to do my Nav Log and expected route, and then cut n paste into GP. Did I mention it's free?

And don't forget, if you're flying part 91, unless you call Flight Service, you're still busted for flying through a TFR that pops up. There are NO online sources that count for a TFR brief.
