For you PHX people. . .

Doesn't Corporate Airlines have a BNA base for their American Connection flying?

[/ QUOTE ]

The entire company is based right here...not at BNA, but at Smyrna , which is just to the south of Nashville. Headquarters, dispatchers, maintenance...it's all right here!

Lastly any reason you prefer SWA over Delta mainline?
Matthew

Maybe cause they're the greatest airline on the planet!!!

That statement might just be a tad bias....

And that is reason alone to try for PHX over MCO.

You could probably hold MCO right out of training, though. BWI and probably OAK as well.

[/ QUOTE ]

I hear OAK is the most junior base....right up my alley!!!

uggghhhhh isn't OAK one big ghetto?

Just thinking WAAAAAY ahead!

Trying to justify the $7000 for the type.

[/ QUOTE ]

I wish I was as optimistic as you are.

People with types have waited a long time for the interview, and then it's not like Southwest is easy to get on with.

I'd live in Phoenix over almost anywhere in the US, however Payson is ok also. Better cities would be Flagstaff, Prescott, or Tuscon. All are nice, and you could commute to work if you didn't want to drive.

Flagstaff is nice, it's where I'm at now...but it is real pricey. You'll have a hard time finding a house for under 200K. That and the job market up here stinks...but it's beautiful! Looks like I'm gonna make the move back to PHX this year to attend either ATP or the program at ASU...so you're welcome to buy my place if Flag is where you want to be!! It's only an hour or so from Payson, and it's a lot bigger. Personally, having lived in PHX before and then moving up here, I'm gonna miss the views and scenery, but PHX is a good place to live. It's easy to get back up to cooler temps when you can't take the heat. Just a couple hours away!

And those same people think that 100% of their chances of getting that job is based on their flight time. They pay no attention to networking. It's all abotu NETWORKING! It has nothing to do with flight time. Albiet that you have the minimums, once your at the interview your on the same playing field.

I was hired before the CFI that taught me everything. In fact he has 5,000 hours and just got called last week for interviews with Skywest and Express Jet. He was hired with ExpressJet and placed in ground school on Monday so he coudlnt interview with SKYW.

He should have had a job years ago before 9/11 came by. Examples like FlyChicaga and somewhat me, are good ones to use when stressing the point, networking is everything. If it were based on flight time we'd be years away from the airlines.

My good friend and neighbor submitted his application to Southwest when the window opened last January. Got his type the third week of Feb. and got called for the interview three weeks ago! He didn't know anyone on the inside, except maybe the PHX chief pilot he met at the Women in Aviation gathering in Reno. From what I hear, though, your contacts at SWA mean nothing until after the interview. It's strictly a numbers game over there (I'm sure there are exceptions, though). He and I are just about at the same level experience-wise; I think he may have a couple hundred more PIC hours.

I'm trying to stay away from the commute. I'd like to live in domicile (or close to) if I could. Much easier for the family that way!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Still not convinced to get the type. I just wish Alaska would get going and start their hiring!

Is Sherri still the CP in PHX? SWA had a scholarship for flight training a couple of years ago, and the PHX pilots were the ones sponsoring it. Talked to her a bunch of times on the phone, through e-mail, and once while passing through Sky Harbor.

Yeah, I hear ya. I have to tell you though, as someone who recently drove through southern AZ, there are better places to live. The bus and generator were having fits with the heat, and to top that all off the bus AC was down as well. Gotta love it.

Anyways, my thought is just be patient. There are a lot WORSE places to be than the left seat of an RJ. lol, I think most people on the board would kill to be where you are. I say stick to you original goals up north, and enjoy the ride. You'll get there, not before me, but you'll get there.

I lived in Mesa while I was going to ATP. Even from only a few miles away during peak hours I-17, HWY 60 E and the 101 are so slow it could take up to two hours to get to Sky Harbor. Mesa is really cheap and Tempe isn't too bad as far as housing goes. It might be a little cooled up North but trying to come down from the mountains can be bear during peak hours. Regardless, it's a dry heat. Good luck with Southwest. I would love to end up there.

Will not help you at Southwest. You go into a points scoring system and you get selected by a computer based on qualifications.

During the last open window they just interviewed everyone that met the mins based on when you turned in your app.

This is why I will be getting the type the in time to have it when I get to 1000 turbine PIC.
