How difficult was it for you transition from fixed wing to a helicopter? (I am assuming that's how this went)

All the JC helicopter pilots appreciate your respect and enthusiasm. Our egos are rarely fed so this is a special treat however, helicopters are just another flying machine and honestly, both have equal but different challenges to learn. Once you know one, you pick up the other fairly quickly.
Don't fret, as we're highly placed here. Fixed-wing guy pisses us off, he gets a temp ban...or worse...![]()
Couldn't sgree more!!!Excellent. Obviously helo pilots are superior and dual rated guys like us bring validity to that statement.
Ban them all, I say.![]()
Well this attitude is much like you always see from military members to civilians, especially career servicemen. (of which several are posting in this thread) Humble, self-effacing, care about the team and not themselves, shrug away any honor for themselves, downplay what they do (that the rest of us never could do or even imagine doing) and just consider themselves to be doing their job. Sorry, I am not buying it. lol It's a marvelous skill set to be able to fly choppers and perform certain ops in them. Maybe one day, I'll at least experience flying in one and become more educated on the subject. It's on my Bucket List, for sure. All the JC helicopter pilots appreciate your respect and enthusiasm. Dude, how could you forget flaps in the flare and canceling at the gate?
And yet another great point by MikeD!Only one problem. If I ban all the fixed wing guys, then forum traffic will be slow because we won't have any more threads about my piece of crap regional vs your piece of crap regional, FLJ, SJS, logging PIC time, 1500 hr rule, flying oversquare, Spirit airlines being a cheap-ass US version of RyanAir, becoming a CFI being a waste of time, most topics in the Lav, whether X Airline is hiring or not, anything related to the ATC/Flight Attendant/Flight Dispatcher forum sections, ERAU vs UND vs everyone else, whether ATPs RJ program is a good deal, how mainline is responsible for giving away scope, etc, etc, etc, etc.
.....come to think of it, might not be a bad idea after all....
I would love to get helicopter qualified. Seriously.
I had always been under the assumption that it was not a quick transition and rather expensive undertaking. Just yesterday though I was talking to a dual qualed guy while sitting in Atlantic City, and now this conversation, both lead me to believe that doing so is in the realm of "doable". Do any of you guys know how much investment in time/money it would take to add the rating?
It's very expensive. Consider that even an R22 is about a couple hundred bucks an hour, along with CFI fee.
What would you use it for?
Ha!
I mean, unless I was working in the field, it wouldn't really be a worthy investment. For me, the taxpayer paid for it; and Im paying it back.
C'mon mike. You, more than anyone else, would make a badass entrance, Airwolf-style....
