For those interested..Piedmont Airlines

We really only have ourselves to blame. As long as we keep chasing the big bucks at the majors we'll keep slogging it out at a regional to get there. If there is another/better way to a major, aside from flying in the military, please show me. I would gladly travel that path. Especially if it pays better.

Maybe it is the best way right now. But pilots should be fighting to make more money now at the regionals, not taking concessions in hopes of landing a job at the majors in 5 to 10 years. The economy/industry can change a lot in that time and you don't want to risk slogging it with bad pay, only to find out later your going to be stuck or furloughed from a regional. I mean jeez, it's the same damn job.

Your making to much sense....

Now cut it out wise guy! We need more dumb, cut throat, self focused pilots willing to work for free; or cheap $$$$ to build hours to get into the Major Airlines. After all, its a FREE MARKET SOCIETY...:sarcasm:

Ask a Comair or American Eagle pilot how that worked for them. The issue with any contractor (aviation, construction, etc.) is that you are always competing with another contractor who's willing to do it for less.

Only in a FREE Market highly capitalistic society like the U.S....

China, Vietnam, Japan, Emirates (U.A.E/Dubai), Ethiad (U.A.E/Dubai).... and other don't have this issue. They pay very very well!

This PDT deal is one of the surest things in the industry right now. Quick upgrade AND Flow to AA in about 4 years for someone hired today. Young guys I would jump on this opportunity ASAP #RunNeverWalk

Actually the PSA language is better than the PDT language, also those 4-5 estimates are with 50% of the current PDT not going to AA. Your quickest path via a flow is still PSA.

Flying somewhere with 50 seat aircraft. Not a good idea for the long term in my opinion. 50 seat flying is going away slowly, but surely. That won't change unless something drastic happens to reverse the current trend.

And for PDT to fill classes. I think they need some CRJ 700's or 900's or EJets. That would give people confidence that the company will likely be around long term and be viable long term. They have a decent contract. But they need more promise than just a few small RJ 'hand-me-downs".

Plus, in my opinion (which someday I will learn to keep to myself), Envoy pretty much saved PDT. PDT did not have a fleet plan to replace the DASH's. And as far as I know, they still really have no long term plan to truly grow their fleet (unless I missed a recent press release where they will get more than just ex-Envoy birds).

Their jet supply is simply a result of American completing the punishment cycle promised at Envoy. And American is making good on the punishment. So if I wanted to be at an American wholly owned, PSA is still the "good boy" in father's eyes. And Envoy is now being more obedient and if their obedient trend continues they may be rewarded in the future if PSA can not handle all the growth papa plans on giving them. And PDT. Well, that is like the forgotten child. But they have a few hand-me-downs that father took from one child as punishment. So enjoy the birds PDT.

Yet with that all said, at least PDT seems to have a near term future. And for those on property now they should likely benefit quite well over the next few years. And for that I am grateful since they have a terrific pilot group at PDT.

I may be mistaken but I thought PSA you still had to interview vs no interview at PDT.

Kind of, outside of the guys that showed up in jeans and a polo and made it very clear they didn't want to flow the PSA guys are batting 100%.

With 1200+ pilots at PSA, the sure thing interview would take 8-9 yrs. with the new coming jets I think PDT can attract more pilots hence increase the number of flow.

I'm wondering how much of a challenge it would be to commute to the Piedmont bases.
It looks like that might open up to a more commutable base option when the jets show up, though.
