FOIs are .....

I second that...

I have to look more into the teaching excemption part in regards to the FIO as I'm teaching at a local University... although.. that doesn't provide exemption to still understanding the principals..

FOI is easy. Rote memorization. Just got the yellow oral exam guide and memorize the FOI answers. I just used the FAA FOI book for lesson plans.

I actually find that I use a lot of the things in the FOI daily. Recognizing the attitude that a student is exhibiting is critical to effective instruction.

Today I worked with a student that could not hold an ILS to save his life, he is trying to do his instrument rating flying one or two days a week.

Principles of Practice and Recency in action.

Understanding the difference between a student just regurgitating information and actually understanding something is also critical.

You have to have a valid teaching cert. (any subject) on at least a middle school level. The exemption gets you out of the written FOI, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't get you out of it on the oral. Also, many people have told me the exemption is such a PITA to get that most people just take the written anyway. I did and it took me about 3 min. to finish.

I'm a teacher too, and "learning" the FOIs is about as much fun as being trampled by a herd of elk.
