Nearing the my test date and was wondering if anyone wants to shed some light on some of the FOI scenarios posed during your rides. I earned my Comm lic in the late 1980's and a lot has changed obviously, FOI's being one of them. I just have some apprehension with regard to this area. Any help??? :eek:
 
If you have specific areas of concern I will gladly attempt to help you out, but the broad question of what do I need to know can only be answered with a broad reply, everything.

Anything in that book is fair game, on my ride I was asked only about primacy, but I had a 98 on my FOI test. Some of my buddies at school spent over an hour going over almost everything in the book, so it really depends. The general questions posed to our students seemed to be the laws/levels of learning, defense mechanisms, critiques, communication, and negative versus positive transfers of learning.

What is a professional instructor?

An understanding of the FOI separates good and bad flight instructors. Make sure you have the latest book (2008). Many changes were made.
 
Didn't get too many questions on the check ride but I did really well on the written.

I just made acronyms for the major things and that seemed to work well.
 
I wasn't asked mush either other than the typical - what is the learning process, show me a lesson plan, what are the various stages of _______

The rest of the checkride was a female doggy though
 
I have seen practical tests of all kinds run the whole spectrum of possibilities. So, if you want to prepare for a specific area, you best bet is to talk with other people who have done their practical test with the examiner who will administer your test.
 
Every examiner is different. Mine was very by-the-book and we spent a good 30 minutes on FOI. We went over learning theory, all the different self-defense mechanism, different scenarios of what a student was doing, what it was called and what I would do as the instructor to help the student through is problem and what the name of the solution was called. Quite literally we went over everything with regard to FOI.

Everyone is different though, like I said. My friend sat down for his checkride and the examiner asked "Do you know the FOI?" to which my friend obviously said yes to and then they moved on. Simple as that. You never know.

What does professionalism mean to you?
