FMS NAV DATA Download

What type of airplane and FMS?

Old shop:

E145 with Honeywell FMS delieverd from Embraer with Worldwide database
E170 out of Brazil with same

New shop:
747-200 Litton 92 INS (FMS's Poppa) has worldwide database but with alot of fixes missing
747-400: (disclaimer - not checked out, but their memos are must read for us)Some sort of Honeywell magicbox Data base is so big they have to leave out some waypoints in a straight line on an airway

I didn't know INS's had databases. I thought it was all LAT/LONG format...

Thanks for the info though!

The only INS's I've used are the Littons. I know there were 2 other models and they required constant waypoint updates. I don't know if they had a database or not. I know one was called a "Carousel", and I can't remember the other one.

that is not a Litton. I believe that is an FMS. Look up an Atlas cockpit shot. they all have Littons

When MX gets the updates. Usually 2 of the 28 day cycles are loaded, so if there is a delay or an airplane has anyother issue, it will still have a legal database.

Plus, for most airlines, there is NO requirement to fly with a legal database. the MEL usually permits us to fly with an expired database, which I have done now more than once...

Do you have to have the chart in your lap with "a finger on the map" in that case? :)

For the G1000 there is a SD flash card. It's updated by either Jeppesen and send to you via USPS or Downloaded via the internet and anybody can do that. For the GNS430 & 530 it is updated a similar way online with a Garmin specific media card. The 430/530 is an 8MB card with the 1000 a 16MB.
