Hmmm. I wonder where it is. There was a C-123 outside the ANG base here, but I think they moved it over to Elmendorf.

That was a pretty cool vid. I like the layout of the cockpit. Especially having a shelf to put things on. I would love for someone to make that into a TV series.

Missionary aviation looks like so much fun to me. With Moody Aviation right next door I know several guys in the field or getting ready to head out shortly.

I would love to do that kind of flying. Not being religious I kind of limits the groups that will let you fly for them

Being the religious kind, I REALLY want to get into this. Anyone know of any groups that take on fresh-ish CPL?

I have spoken to a couple of different organisations, but the impression they have given me is more "we are looking for older pilots who may as well be retiring soon".

MAF - Mission Aviation Fellowship is one I'm most familiar with and is based out of Nampa, Idaho. They qualify a lot of mechanics and pilots for missions around the world. If you are familiar with the movie "End Of The Spear" or the documentary "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" about the killing of Nate Saint and three other missionary pilots by the Waodani tribe in Ecuador, and then their wives going to live among the tribe to show forgiveness and bring reconciliation... they were part of MAF.

http://www.iamanet.org/ will get you a list of many other organizations.

Many missionary pilot slots require you to be an A&P's as well. Having back country experience is good obviously and experience in the 206 is important as it is missionary aviation's primary pack mule in many areas. Moody Bible Institute runs a missionary aviation program in Spokane, WA that is a very popular training program for missionary pilots/mechanics. We also have Spokane Turbine Center which specializes in training missionary pilots on the Kodiak.

It's also common that missionary pilots have to raise their own support for their pay and their families needs while serving overseas, that combined with the extreme work conditions, unique qualifications, depending upon the area the isolation and lack of social and education support for families makes it a difficult job.

The video there is from Susi Air, and you need no religious qualifications to apply. There are threads that address the goods and bads of some of the different groups that do some of this kind of flying.

Feel free to PM me if you want some specifics on things as I work in the world that interests you.
