Flying lessons in SoCAL

Hello Pilots!

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to take flying lessons around Los Angeles.

There are a lot of places down here, but I'm not sure what to look for.

Thanks in advance. :)

If you are in the Fullerton area or can get there you are in luck. I am instructing there now and am looking to fill a few empty slots on my schedule with serious students.

Check it out at www.flyafi.com

If you have any questions PM me and I would be more than glad to get you going!

Tim's a top notch guy. Professional, knows what the heck he's doing and knows that I'd kick his butt if he slips up! :)

I've seen him handle it before. He's a very capable instructor who puts professionalism on a whole new level. How are you liking Fullerton, Timmy? I used to take some of my students there for short field practice. Shoot me a pm when you get a chance so we can catch up.

I'll second the AFI nomination. Did my initial training and instrument there eons ago. Great atmosphere and excellent maintenance. The planes are all new too...some I think come with those nifty glass panel thingies......The Bills are good people... :bandit:

KVNY!
:p

Ill be flying from there if I decide to go with an FBO. If not, ill be out of KWHP through Glendale Colelge

Wow, but incredibly expensive. Cableair, in Upland, rents a 172 at $98/hr WET, and a $152 at $82/hr. They also have a G1000 2006 C-172, if you want to pay more, for $150/hr. I can't see why anyone would pay the prices that those other places are charging when you can get those kinds of prices at Cable.

You get a better product. Some schools offer the cheapest thing out there, others offer more goodies and cater to other clients. Southwest caters to one type of crowd, and United First caters to another, both exist, and both can do well.

It all depends on the person though.

So far in my instructing experiences about 80% of my clients have been the businessman types who have their own career going and want to learn to fly and money is no obstacle. Others prefer to do it the cheapest way possible.

You checked out any FBO's yet at VNY?

Im talking with Aero Club VN about a Discovery flight right now, and if I really like the people there and their operation, I might do my training with them.
Depends on my financial situation sadly. If the 'rents pitch in, ill be doing an FBO, if not, ill likely go through a college aviation class.

If Aero Club is the place I'm thinking it is, you want to avoid it. The MX BLOWS there as I understand it.
