Flying in sandals.. Opinion?

Part of me wonders what a thin layer of canvas or leather is really going to do for my feet in the event of a crash. Another part says f-it it, I can therefore I should. And the last part says "don't be that guy." So I wear either shoes or boots.
 
Some guys out here go barefoot. just waiting to see one of them do it on a check ride and see what the dpe says.
 
Barefoot has it's advantages:



In all seriousness no way, never. I wear comfortable shoes I can easily manipulate the rudder pedals in and more importantly could quickly evacuate in.
 
Sandals are a lousy choice whether you are uninjured and walking or carrying your injured passenger out of a brushy, snake-infested field after you execute a good forced landing.

Poisonous snakes rarely bite the feet. It's typically mid calf. You fly in chaps?
 
Sandals are a poor choice whether flying or as a passenger in my personal opinion. If you the slim chance you happen to run off the runway or survive a crash whether a GA or Airliner it isn't going to be any fun walking over gravel, fuel, fire or brush to safety. That is part of thinking ahead and being prepared. Then again some people are sheeple and can't be bothered with preparing...

So, people who don't agree with your idea of preparing are "sheeple?"

I have no issues. currently walking all over gravel barefooted, but I don't wear shoes when I can help it.
 
Flip flops, man. Gotta do it in flip flops. Which I've done. The only thing that sucked was getting some of the fuel on my feet when I dumped the fuel after checking it for water.

Oh, the horror. The horror.

Meh. Especially down south the likelihood of having deal with an off airport survival scenario for any length of time is pretty miniscule. I'd personally rather spend my time worrying about the stuff that statistically will kill you. ..stall-spins and poor adm especially weather. And to the crowd that's going to cry about "what if you have a fire?" Do you wear nomex and carry a smoke hood? No? Then wearing sandals or no is not really the big issue.
