flying checks

Flying checks has been slowly phased out for some time now with new computer technology replacing the need for banks to have their check stubs delivered by aircraft. Does anyone know what banks and region still fly check stubs if any? I have heard this machine cost only about $2,000 for the bank to own. Anyone still flying checks?

There's still quite a bit of check flying still happening.

Our company was flying checks for American Checks up in MT until they just went bankrupt. Were still trying to get our money :(

Airnet currently got the contract.

Man, I thought that Bankair had gone out of business. The last time \I stopped by they had a ton of the Lear's parked at the back of the ramp in Columbia. Have they been able to get things rolling with the 135 passenger stuff?

I used to work line service at Eagle Aviation at CAE and was used to seeing them in and out on a daily basis. Was there in 2000-2001 and fueled the airlines, Fedex, UPS, and the General Aviation stuff.

Pissed off a english crew when I parked a set of Cobra's behind their Lear 60. He said he could see rocks being blown forward to the back of his engines.

My run has Bank of America. We have another that has Compass and Regions checks on it. Ironically enough the Bank of America run is only about 7 months old. They also have an inter-company mail system so that saves them money of postage.

I fly bank work. Its not all checks from what I understand, its all sorts of inter branch "mail" if you will that must be delivered on a set schedule. Banks which still fly their paperwork around include US Bank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, plus many other smaller local banks.

I fly for Ram Air Freight and all we do is fly checks. Most of our runs are for RBC bank, Bank of America, and Wachovia (owned by Wells Fargo). There is a rumor that we might be picking up several more runs for Wachovia, but we'll see if that actually happens. Wells Fargo/Wachovia does not like to send their checks and bank mail electronically. I don't know why. I'm sure they must spend a fortune sending all of their stuff the old fashioned way.

rumor i heard is that they do not want to spend the money to update their "system" including computers, personnel (training), etc. And I am totally cool with that! If they quit flying thier work, a lot of us would be on the street

Anyone still flying checks?

Every day out of Minneapolis. Pick a Dakota and I've been there this week.

I'm as surprised as anyone that it still happens, although I think the bulk of it is trending toward other bank documents, inter-company mail, emergency shipments of those little pens with the chains attached, that sort of stuff. I really have no idea what's in the bags, nor do I care.

Apparently it'll keep on happening for a while yet, albeit on a much smaller scale than in the glory days.

Bankair doesn't fly checks anymore I don't think. They have a couple of lears setup for passenger charters.

:dunno: They have a turboprop(MU-2 I think?) that does a run through my airspace at least once a week. I always thought/was told it was checks. You may be right.

As long as we have banks like Wells Fargo and RBC bank that fiercely resist the change to sending their checks and mail electronically, I think that check flying will continue for quite a while.

LOL:clap:

Airnet, Flight Express, and Central Air are still running checks.

When I was at Central, I was in Louisville shipping 20+ duffel bags on checks to Chicago every night. After February, it dropped to 3 boxes to Cleveland. I heard tonight is the last night of that run.
