'Flying Cheap' PBS Documentary on Regional Airlines

Have you checked out SWA's business model?

I didn't live in a dorm in college, I'm not living in one while flying a jet.
I don't care how shiny it is.

I had more room in my dorm room than some of those guys.

I loved that... "I'm not talking about AVERAGE pilot salaries!"

Loved it...Did you see Cohen start getting uncomfortable?

I hate to say this but Colgan is not the only one doing this. It's no secret.

Agreed. Another game the regionals play is to change your showtime to 5 minutes prior to departure so you can show "legal" rest and then they expected the flight to block out on-time.

Great preview. Does anyone but me feel the need to shower after watching and listening to Cohen? Ugh.... What a smarmy, disingenuous excuse for a man.

Major props to Corey, though! I flew with him several time and he is a great guy and I'm not surprised he stepped up to do the interview. He is as straight a shooter as you can get.

Cohen's a slimeball. Glad to see some pilots and media trying to get the info out there.

Well my hat is off to all of you that have to live like this day in and day out. I certainly had no idea about crash pads. I did a phone interview 2 or 3 weeks ago for a regional airline and they made it sound like being an FO is a bed of roses.

They always make it sound like a bed of roses. I never could afford a crash pad on FO pay at the regionals. I slept in my car, crew room, and even bartered janitorial work at a local hotel for free nights.

The fuel hedge advantage SWA had is almost completely gone and they're still doing pretty well. Jetblue, AirTran, and Allegiant all joined them in the money making party. And they all have similar business models.
