Fly-in camping with my C-140

I went fly-in camping with some friends last night and these pictures are what came out.

My buddy usually shoots with a nice Digital Rebel camera but forgot to bring it, so I gave him my crappy 3 megapixel Olympus point and shoot and asked him to get the best shots he could.

We didn't have enough daylight to get any good shots on Friday, but this morning turned out alright.

Here they are:

Too cool dude...where did you guys go??

Grand Coulee Dam / Electric City, WA. 3W7.

It has a really nice parking/camping area along the water front, but three planes were already set up there when we landed.

We parked in the main parking area and hiked down to the lake. The mosquitoes were attacking us like there'd be no tomorrow, and since I was the only one smart enough to bring a tent, we decided to hike back up to the picnic area and set up camp there.

A little less scenic, but a lot more comfortable. It was a great trip!

Sounds like good times...I'd love to retire and buzz around the country in an old Ercoupe doing fly-in's, pancake breakfasts, and camping all along the way...what a life that would be. Think I need to go get a lottery ticket!

They have an airport car there. If I flew in there and wanted to camp, I'd see if I couldn't take the car over to Steamboat Rock campground. It's not far and has a really nice beach area. I think it's a state park.

Also, I'd go to Chelan way before I'd go to Electric City. You could walk to town and there is a whole lot more going on. Nicer facilities at the airport, too. But maybe you like rustic.

Chelan, as in Lake Chelan, S10? I've heard that's a nice place, but never been there. I didn't know they had campsites. Maybe I'll check it out before the end of the summer.

And yeah, I usually do primitive camping. I thought I was living like royalty to have running water and a flush toilet at 3W7!
