Float Planes

I don't know if anyone has taken a ride or flown one, but it is probably the coolest ride in a plane I've ever taken - in Winter Haven, FL at Brown's Seaplane Base - took a ride in a Cub on floats - pretty cool! Jimmy Buffet went there to get his seaplane rating, too-
 
A Sesna T-50 plane (with floats) in the next town over form mine crashed today. pilot was killed on impact. The worst part..the pilot purchased the airplane hours before.

I've flown in a Caravan Amphibian a few times......but never landed or took off on the water though

JC1188- never take everything that news reporters write as the complete truth. I know you were just relaying what that reporter wrote, but the plane was a "Cessna" T50. Probably some writer who heard someone say "Cessna", had no idea what it was, and then just spelled it as he saw fit. I had to read that story again just to make sure I actually saw a news guy botching one of aviation's most common names. /end rant (against reporter, not JC1188)

thanks for the clarification..I was typing it and it didn't sound right. Sooo, I did a google search on it and planes showed up and I submitted it. Either way, sad story
 
Two of my uncles own float planes and it sure is fun flying in them and my grandpa built one, but it barly gets off the water

not even my two unlces who are pilots (his sons) will take his plane up.

Went up to Moose Pass, Alaska and got my SES last year!

It was the coolest flying I've ever done, just like a National Geographic special. It wasn't just float flying either, mountain flying techniques are incorporated into the program, so it definitely makes you a better pilot.

They say if you can fly in AK, you can fly anywhere, so I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

I was thinking of maybe asking for my SES and a trip up to Alaska for my graduation gift in a couple of years.

The price for the course was about $1400 not including the examiner fee. You get about 8 hours of float time, plus some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

I've visited Alaska twice now, and I think that area-between Anchorage and Seward, is my most favorite area in the state. Everyone wants to see Denali, I was fortunate to see the peak both times I was there, but that 130 mile drive is truely spectacular.

Plus, the area around Denali is getting too commercialized, something that's just going to happen when millions of visitors are coming up every year.

Just got my float rating 2 days now.... cost was $1100 CDN including tax! for 7 hours! it was a piper cub on floats, got it here www.elmhirst.com it's a resort as well! any questions just ask.... it was a blast! I recommend it
