Putting your trust in any kind of logbook program is folly. Next month they might go to a "subscription" fee, or even if you "own" the program, and ooops, operating system changes and now it won't run....pfffft, there goes your data.
Doubly so for any "on line" solution. Ooops, server goes down or defunct, and oops, there goes your data.
Parker and Paper is the only way to go. Excel (or similar) if you must

Richman you sould like some of the Capt's that I had at my last job that refused next gen technology. Pen and Paper is fine for basic logging but with all the different ways a pilot needs to breakdown time for applications and insurance forms an electronic log is a must. Nothing wrong with keeping both.
Logbook Pro can export to open source text files or Excel if you so choose. I keep my Logbook in several formats. I personally like the features of Logbook Pro and how much time it saves me in logging and filling out forms.
I'd be more leary about a free online product going poof than the several pay services out there.
