Flight Training

Does anyone have any info in regards to nationwide student pilot enrollment over the last month/year? I'm curious as to how many people are learning to fly now in light of increasing costs (fuel and rental) and other various and sundry reasons.

I'd say that domestic student numbers are down at a lot of flight schools due to lack of funding. There aren't as many loan programs out there like Key Bank any more. Also, to most people in the US the airline industry still looks gloomy thanks to the wonderful media. It's obvious that the airline industry drives flight training. That's why most people get interested in flying. There are, however, a lot of international students from India, Europe and China doing training in a lot of schools in the US right now due to fact that it is way cheaper. Even the huge US flight academies are cheaper than the schools in Europe and other countries. The economies in these countries have boomed overnight and the airlines there are hurting for pilots!
Just my thoughts on what I've seen in flight training.

Air Inc usually posts these types of normals in Flying magazine. I'd just check the local newstand and find it real quick.

Most likely though, training is down by at least 5% compared to last year (my guess).

According to AOPA flight training april 06:

"Dec 05

Airline pilot hiring is all professional pilot hiring during December as reported by aviation career consulting firm AIR,inc. and includes major, national, and regional airlines as well as fractional operators."

Student pilot certificates

04 - 3,558
05 - 2,292

Airline pilot hiring

hope this helps
