Hey everyone,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm brand new to the Del Rio area and was wondering if anyone knows of some places I can go get some lessons at. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pico Aviation has a few flight instructors who work with them (in a true contractor sense, you rent the plane from Pico and then pay the flight instructor his rate directly to the CFI), I used to be one of them but I'm not going to be in Del Rio right now. Most of the other flight instructors are also Customs & Border Patrol pilots who flight instruct on the side, they're all very experienced.

The charge for their 172 to rent is $130/hr wet BUT if you buy in 10 hour blocks they drop the price down to $87 so I would definitely recommend that.

I hear the Air Force has some pretty good training down there. ;)

Seriously though, good luck with your training.

not sure..didn't see any when I was there for a year. Laughlin is extremely busy so maybe that is why no one wants to mess with flying around there. You may want to check out KDRT though just in case.

I'm sure Hondo has a flight school. That's quite a hike though.

A Colgan Slaab flew overhead recently to the WNW, meanwhile 2 T-38s were hauling ass up initial 13 and then entered the break to the left. I bet the people on the Saab thought they were going to get shot down.

Haha. Well I'm not in the air force. Otherwise I'd try to get in on that. It looks like I'm probably going to go with pico. Do you have any suggestions for flight instructors? I have a card with a few on it. It sounds like I'm going to have to go to san Antonio or uvalde for some of my training.

No flight school at Hondo...hell, it's a ghost town since the AF cancelled the T-6 contract out there.

Blackhawk (user here) works out in El Paso...take a look at samdawsoncfi.com. He may be able to help you out! You got mooneyguy out here in SAT who may hook you up too!

Heyeng is correct about Hondo, check out uvalde, im unsure of there services, I know castroville has nothing there either. which is a shame it's a nice airport! If business was better, I would love to start a flight school there.

there are options here in San Antonio. PM me when you need info and I will let you know what is available here.

Haha unfortunately I work out here. It sounds like you've spent some time out here. If you have I'm sure you can use your imagination and determine what i do. ;) haha. Especially since there's only 2 things that people do for work out here.
