Flight Training at BCT

It had to be this thread coming to haunt me once again.lol

Yes, I'm still here, now with a more discreet username.

Doug, right now I'm just working and saving up my money. That doesn't work too well though cause so far I've already bought a new mouthpiece for my sax, a laptop and almost a digital camera and new parts for my PC. It's really tempting to spend money once I have it.

I talked to a few local pilots and they said now would be a good time to start. The flight school I did my intro with (Skyblue) had a bunch of damage to their airplanes so it's gonna be a little while before things are back to normal. I got everyone telling me to go to Palm Beach Flight Training at KLNA instead cause it's a better flight school and cheaper. It is however, a 35 minute drive which is not good for someone who doesn't have a car. At least BCT is 5 minutes away so I can ride my bike there.

A friend of mine said Skyblue is run by a regional pilot who only goes there sometimes. I've met him the day of my intro. Is this something I should also put into consideration? Is him not being there actually gonna affect my training?
 
Brian, your gonna have to learn how to save money...it's not easy, but once you get used to it - it becomes really easy! but learn now before credit card companies start sending you application after application!

if the regional pilot isn't your instructor, then i don't htink you have anything to worry about!

but.. is there a way you can get to palm beach via bus or any other mode of transportation?

Brian...I will second what Kristie said. Saving money is a valuable investment in your future.
I love buying clothes and used to buy like $200-300 worth of clothes every paycheck while living at home.
Now I live on my own and simply can't afford to do that. Now I will not shop as much. Maybe buy one outfit (pants & shirt) or just maybe one item should I feel so moved.
One sweater one pay period a pair of pants or shoes the next pay period eventually add up to a new outfit.
My point and I'm getting to it is that there is nothing wrong with spending on yourself God knows I enjoy it. But you have to sacrifice for the things you really want and that matter.
Since your nearing graduation (eventually) are you starting to concern yourself more with your future goals? Like where you will be attending school and what not. Do you plan to get all your ratings in school?
Or are you going to get your private and just fly while in college to maintain proficency then maybe attend a school like Skymates or ATP to finish up?

Follow these rules and you will never get into trouble with credit cards. I should know I work for the devil.

1.) Only spend the ammont you can afford to pay back at the end of the month so that your not carrying a balance.

2.) If you do carry a balance make more then just the minimum payments. We here my my company like to say double the ammount sent in every month.

With 5,000+ posts and a member of JC for only 2 years, maybe its time to get a job, or one with more hours. You need to make a decision and stick with it instead of asking questions you know the answer to (by being around JC so much). "Will the owner not being there affect my training?"......Maybe, but all you have to do is ask another student how his/her training was going. To me, its a dumb question. I dont see how the owner affects the quality of your training as long as training standards are met, and your CFI is good. Not only that, you've beaten the questions about your flight school to death. Maybe its just to post something, but you should have an idea of where/what you want to do by now. Stop getting confused by everyones differing opinions. You had a flight or two with the place at BCT, the school is close to you, you liked it, and from what I hear they are good operation. If you are so tight with money that you would want to drive 30min each way to LNA, then maybe you need to take out a loan. Not only that, but I bet an hr drive a couple days a week would start hurtin the wallet as well. Although I was lucky enough to get most of my training paid for, when it came down to it, I focused on what needed to be done instead of fixing my computer, going to Sawgrass (a mall for you non-FL people),etc,etc,etc. You havent even begun real flight training yet. Go get at least 10hrs in a bird, then come back and let us know what you think. If you feel the school at Boca isnt right for you, then go elsewhere. But learn a little something before you start second guessing a decision you haven't even followed through with yet.

Sorry if I sounded lik an a$$ at all, but a combo of being stir crazy from the hurricane, and another BaJesus repetitious post kinda got to me.

That offer is still up for flying with me, but ya gotta get down to FLL/FXE. PM or IM me sometime, and we'll work it out. Just no more play by play commentary about your dating game! ;)
 
Max- Thanks for the insight. I really don't spend that much usually. Up until the past two weeks I've spent mostly on food. Food can really add up when your eating out everyday. Like I won't eat anything at school then get home and go straight to work so I usually spend around $5 on chinese food or Quiznos or whatever. I almost bought a $400 digital camera today cause I wanted to take aviation photos.:banghead: Good thing the ATM didn't let me take that much money out. I've been impulsevely trying to buy things lately. I like the idea of putting my card in the machine and cash coming out, without realizing my account is also being hurt. I gotta leave my ATM card at home and walk around with just $20.

FlyingNole- Thanks for your insight also. You are in no way being an @ss. I totally respect your sincere opinions. I do have a job, I get paid $6.15/hr and as of now I got about 21 hours a week. I'd like to work at Avitat at BCT but I think they only hire at 18, maybe 17 if I'm lucky; can't work there even if it is 1 though until May 31st. I'm saving up for a car and my flying lessons so I really shouldn't be spending on anything else. I really don't spend time on Jetcareers as many people think; I spend much less than I used to. Ever since the hurricane hit us I've been outside much more often riding my bike and etc.

I'll take you up on that flying offer anytime. I'll pay for the fuel. Your do have your CFI right?

You sound dangerous with an ATM...God forbid you get a debit or credit card at your current level of fiscal maturity.
When you get older you will see how expensive it is to eat out. More especially ever day/night. You might want to sneak a peak at what I said in the "How meager have you eaten this week." For some ways to eat cheap when you first get on your own place.
$5 seems cheap but if you add up how much you spend in a week,a month or a year you might be rather suprised!

Transportation system down here totally sucks so it's very unconvenient to get there by public transportation. I'll just go to BCT instead.

I'm gonna contact Skyblue and let them know I'll be flight training with them so I can initiate the TSA clearance. There goes more money.:banghead:

Brian...(shakes head.) Did you ever stop to think that this CFI you talked to is maybe bad mouthing the competetion because he wants you to train at his school as his student?
He in fact could be on the level and being honest. But never just take his advice about a rival school without checking out Skyblue and forming an opinion on your own!

Man this could be fun, but I have to think better of it because we all know I can not only cross the line, but completely whipe out the line to. I am sure even if use the sarcasm tag I will get banned, so it was with great sadness that I must pass this golden opportunity by.

BaJesus and I are (online)friends. I assume, or I hope he knows I was kidding. Hence the sarcasm tag. If ya knew me in person, you'd hear me crack more Jewish jokes than my friends.

You guys hear about the new car made in Israel?
