Want to Buy Flight Simulator X

^
Yeah, just buy it on Amazon. Get the Gold Edition since it includes the Acceleration Expansion pack which enables you to use the "DX10 Preview" mode. I get significantly more FPS by doing so.

That price is a steal, in my opinion.

Then again, I geek out on FSX:

That's a neat video game and monitor setup you got there. However, that old wood paneling is hideous. ;)

Meh, real nerds like me manually install their flightplans to use the best repaints/models...and divide them by era along with the scenery. :p

As nerdy as it is, I would totally get a cockpit sim if I had the money. Of course I'd never fly it sober.

I could probably get into editing traffic files if I could ever figure out how to do it. It seems incredibly time consuming from what I have read. I spend enough time tweaking rather than flying as it is :|
Someday, I'll be able to fly my PMDG 737 into LGA with max traffic... someday.

Anyone have a copy they can lend me for a few months? Going through American Flyers CFI course in a month and have access to their training modules, but requires it...Not sure if it's all that helpful, but can't hurt I guess, as far as talking through the maneuvers while you're flying 'em. I'd be happy pay shipping here and back.

What AF location? Just an FYI you will have more time than you can imagine in their sims
When I did the academy after week 1 we had 1/2 of every day to do sim, or work on lessons
The best thing you can do to prepare is go fly & get commercial maneuvers and approaches up to PTS standards in the right seat before you show up to the academy ....it's worth it!

You get unlimited sim while there, but only 10hrs of flight!

7 hours of flight for just the CFI-A that we are doing. KPWK location.

Its really simple. Say you want Braniff in your sim. You find a website like Avsim where someone has created and uploaded them, then download the text document. See what airplanes it needs, find the said models and repaints on the internet, copy a line of text from each airplane and paste it into the "aircraft" section of the flightplans after its put into the proper aircraft folder in the sim. Then you simply complie the flightplans using a tool called Ttools, launch FS, and see "jellybean" 727s all over Dallas. Tedious, but really simple to learn and do.

I'll warn you though, getting into this stuff is the gateway drug to wasting hours making your own flightplans. :p

I think my FS2004 folder is somewhere around 50GB worth of stuff. /nerdstatusachieved?

For the poster here in the forum, look on Craigslist or something. I'm sure you can find it for dirt cheap.

Yep... you've achieved it.
I just checked... 56GB for me on a dedicated SSD. That's not including the REX textures, GEX textures, and a bunch of backup files on a regular data drive.
