Go for P3D V4.
FSX was released when John King was still a SEL PPL
I recently helped someone get a simulator set up and had them buy this. It runs Prepar3D very well (over 40 FPS) with almost all sliders maxed out, and one or two at 90%:

Prepar3D with ORBX scenery is even more impressive. For those not familiar here are some shots (not mine):

Interesting. I’ve been using XPlane the last few years, but I’ve got an Oculus and didn’t realize P3D had VR support. Might need to get that.
It's outta stock. What kinda price range is that stuff?
How is Oculus by the way?
So - I've been thinking about trying to make training tools that use Oculus to teach flows and cockpit setup and stuff - is oculus worth a damn?

Laugh all ya want, I got FS2000 and FS2002 on my Windows 7!
Yeah, I will go on laughing. My first MSFS was on a DOS PC, it might have been the 1.0. It had the amazing Sopwith Camel, a Lear and a 182, and we all aimed to Sears Tower till we got the trashed windscreen. Don't lie to me!
Fond, fond memories of my simming days going all the way back to when it was just me, FS98, and a crappy joystick. Flew that little Learjet around the world with just Lat/Long and an atlas. Good times....good times. Didn't let go of FS98 until FS2004 I think.
Anyway, I've been giving serious though to getting back into it. I can't fly as often as I want and I notice that I'm not as sharp as I'd like to be on my flows flying just once every other week. So let me float this amongst y'all: Do I get a "prefab" system, such as the Redbird Jay or TD1 or go for a gaming PC with add-on yoke, throttles etc? I may still have a yoke and throttle quadrant in storage, though if they still work is another question.
I've got a fairly capable iMac (32GB Ram, 2GB AMD Radeon), so I'm considering XPlane as well.

Damn kids. I grew up on FS4 and FS5. In DOS. Do you even remember DOS?!![]()

I still remember coming home from school and firing up the computer before my brother and sister would get home a half hour later.

Alright...maybe I can get to Midway without crashing on final today...it's gotta be easier to fly a plane without having to use the arrow keys for flight controls...

I did and they have some impressive products. I haven't looked to carefully, but with just some quick calculations, they don't seem to have a price advantage over a Redbird TD (for example). You might want to check the guys at Jetline Systems if you are serious about it...
