Hey guys and gals,

I'm going to be out in San Diego in a couple weeks and wanted to do some flying. Just for some sight seeing fun -- anyone have suggestions a good place to rent from? I'll want to take a CFI with me. Thanks guys :)

North County or South County..there are MANY

North county has KCRQ and you can take your pick between Orion Aviation, Grey Eagle and Pinnacle. All are good schools, which type of plane are you looking to rent, that may narrow it down. New, old, high wing, low wing, tailwheel, tricycle etc.

South county I am a little more vague on but there are a few airports to choose from

Cool! Thanks for the info. Plane doesn't really matter -- wouldn't mind a Seminole or Twin Star. However, I am just as happy with a 172 or Arrow. :)

if you are looking for a seminole than only Pinnacle out of KCRQ has one, they are not the cheapest but they take good care of their fleet, very good care. Grey Eagle has probably the cheapest duchess around out of CRQ and it is somewhere around 165 an hour or so.

I havent been in SoCal for 8 months but when I left there were no twinstars in the area.

Great, thank you.

Go to CRQ - best non-flying-club rates. If you want dirt cheap rates, get a flying club membership at Plus One Flyers and you'll get a Duchess for $165/wet, a Cessna 152 for $58/wet, etc...

Pinnacle will get you for like 6 hours for the checkout in the Seminole, already tried that route and told them I didn't want to pay for a 6 hour checkout when I wasn't planning on flying it for more than 4 or 5. Montgomery and Gillespie are closer to the city and they have options as well. Don't know of any twin stars in san diego for rent but there are plenty of old crappy duchesses for cheap.
