Flight Safety Academy question??

Hi everybody, I was just wondering if there's anybody who has or knows how long is would take to go from zero time, to F/O with a regional at FSA? And also, do you need to be a CFI at the school, or is the time spent training there enough to apply after training is complete?

Dont waste your time and money at FS...its a rip off. You can get all of the necessary ratings to get to the regionals anywhere else at a much cheaper price. Zero time to regional time at FS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 18-24 months, depending on how hard you work at it. Weekend trips down to South Beach to look at scantilly clad woman (or men) does not help. No you do not have to be a cfi to get into the regionals, but it sure helps. Check out Paris Air on the KVRB field, they're quite good and very reasonable. If you're into the academy style way of training, definately visit Pan Am @ Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix....much much better than FS. This is not just my opinion, these are the FACTS...I've been there-done that!!!!!! good luck :rawk:

Yes this is your opinion.
If you have the money for FSA go for it, if your looking to save some money, try a local FBO.
Good Luck and take opinions with a grain of salt, posts like the above never help. Talk to a few people, shop around , and im sure you will make the correct choice for YOU.

Well I had gone down to Florida to visit some academy's and FSA seemed alright, but i also visited Jet University. They guarantee a job with pinnacle airlines. What can you tell me about this place, and would it be a smart choice to train there?

Do not, I repeat do not go to FSA. The training is a complete rip-off. They have a very clever marketing deparment just like all of the pilot mills and will tell you how great things will be. I know this because I fell for it. Based on the state of the industry there will be no more fast track programs. Think about it, just this month ATA, Champion, Skyway, Aloha all went out of business. Over 1,000 pilots hit the street this month. Regional carriers have already started offering voluntary LOA's. (Express Jet, Midwest in the fall) The boom is over and the furloughs are coming, trust me. I would seriously question a career in aviation. I don't doubt your desire to fly, once you have the bug you cannot get rid of it. That being said, fly for a hobby, this career will lead you down the road of financial ruin. How will you pay back that 70 grand on a $18,000 salary? Your loan payment will be more than you make in a month. Pay is not going back up and will continue to trend downward. My advice would be to go to a local FBO and get your private while working and avoiding massive debt. See if you like it and continue working while you train. I paid for the "Harvard of Pilot Training" ( BS ) and I am still paying for it, big mistake. Minimums are going to go way up and trust me, airlines could care less where you got your training. Sorry to come across as negative, best of luck in your endeavors.

Well I started last Jan 07' with zero hours and am about to take my checkride at a regional. I started Indoc here FEB; so it took me Exactly 12 months from zero to regional f/o.

I was VERY pleased with quality of instruction and facilities. I say go tour the school and make your decision from there.

Ok, to those who just badmouthed fsa, did you go there?

If you did, when?

I think FSA is expensive, but there are ALOT of things hidden behind the doors that people get into and oppertunities. Its not just go to the airport and fly. Its alot different than that.

<deleted> But seriously, I have nothing bad to say about FSA other than its pricey. I bet its not FSA if you didnt like it, it was probably you.

:)

Well what do you think about Jet University then instead of FSA? They guarantee a F/O job and in know pay doesnt start out well, but a few years down the road the left seat opens up and money gets better right?

<> It was an opinion based my own personal experience. I think you have been spending too much time in the marketing office.

Nah, I dont spend anytime in the marketing place down here.

I just teach here.

But hey, i know ALOT of people are very happy with it here, but you always have the exeptions, everyplace is like that.

Everyone's level of expierience, likes or dislikes will vary based upon how much you value succeeding in the aviation industry. All I can say is that don't let anyone elses point of view distract you, go check out the school it self before you attend and see what they have to offer.

If you want my opinion, and facts I have heard from alumni students and even senior captains in the aviation industry, the school is good to go. Not many people that I work with currently know about it unless im asking a Marine Officer in the aviation field flying fighters. One Major who was close to retiring told me FSA is a well known school and very structured and demanding.

If your not serious about aviation don't go to FSA, to my understanding classes get difficult and dropping 78k-80k to attend the school from ground up is quite expensive. At least that is the loan amount I had to request. Good thing I have the GI bill covering 60% or I would be SOL on interest.

Read other entries in this forum and do you research, I should be going on a tour sometime, when ever I get some time off... I start classes in August if you plan on waiting that long, for me to tell my story.

Take Care,
Godspeed,

Dude, are you for real? Where do you work? I think it is very obvious to everyone. Pan-Am does not even come close to the quality of training that Flight Safety offers......

Yes, CIME and CFI. The point I am trying to make is due to the state of the economy I don't think dropping that kind of money is a good idea. Wages for pilots unfortunately continue to decrease and they are not going to go back up based on fuel expenses, industry conditions, economy, etc. Consolidation is coming and it will be good for some but not many. If I had known that wages and QOL would decline the way they are I would have chosen flying as a hobby not a career. That loan payment each month is still rather annoying. Would you pay $100,000 to go to medical school if you knew the chances of making $100,000 were slowly but steadily disappearing?
