Good reply - I'm not trying to bash Bluehen, I understand what he is saying - just as I understand what you are saying.. I am not sure if you are an instructor or not, but if you are - I am sure you can see where I am comming from on the "being taught by your student thing."
While, I'm sure the "tomatoflaames, grabcard, etc" are not still memory verbatim answers to many instructors across the planet, one thing *I* was taught, by a "non-ATPian" examiner is that as an instructor - primacy is a large part of teaching, so maybe the instructor looked up the VFR equip just to make sure he didn't tell anyone a false answer, I don't know, just one side of the coin.
Another thing - ATP does work for some and not for others, but it seems Bluehen has been trying to discredit ATP as a whole - and me being part of the ATP program - that urks me a bit, as I know what the instructor who "knows nothing" went through to get where he was.. We have a "standardization ride" here at ATP for all new instructors - I can honestly tell you it was the most stressful event in all of my flying career.. It is designed to be just that, to see that the guy sitting in the right seat is able to fly the airplane under "extreme duress."
Anyway - we're beating a dead horse, Bluehen did not like it which is fine, you can't please everyone all the time, everyone is not pleased with ATP and there are some things inherent in the system that even I would change - but I am not in the position to do so..
Anyway I've rambled long enough...
