Flight Instructors - China

Just a little tidbit of info on that place.

The President there (Ding) held pretty much every management position possible at Beijing Panam in my tenure with that flight school (2006) before he jumped ship to his current job. He is not a very nice guy to put it lightley, he promised everyone at Panam the same thing, 2 years and they will "recommend" you for employment with an airline!

Number of former BPIAA instructors currently working for an airline on his recommendation....ZERO!!!:nana2:

He even asked people for a $1000 "harmony fee" to write the recommendation letter, wich of course, he had no intention of writing anyways.:banghead:

For anyone thinking of going to china, it can be fun, i had a blast when i was there, but be advised that the chinese know what you want to hear and will say anything to get you over there. Odds are most of their promises wont be kept.

Ding and his cronies + flight school = Snakes on a Plane:laff:

Mr. Ding the communist wasn't the only one that would tell instructors what they wanted to hear.... P. Murphy did that very well also when he was at BPIAA!

Anyone heard the audio from the Asian UPT stud who was cooking his IP? I heard it could have been some intercom issues, but if it was language barrier, it could make for a heated situation (sts).

Having been to ShenZhen, I think it would be a great opportunity to get some flying time and cultured at the same time.

I know 2-3 years is a long time...but if they really mean what they say about the upgrade to larger equipment after the CFI gig that would seem like a better route to take for those of us that want to work for a major in a quicker time frame.

The key wording though is "Instructors in good standing...at the end of the contract." Thats the the part that scared me. You don't smile one day or don't show up wearing the standard issue haircut then at the end of two or three years your royally screwed and then behind the curve (though you will probably have a large bank account and have made many, beautiful friends).

"if they're serious"? Did you not read what the guy who actually worked for this bozo said? Never underestimate the willful self-delusion of the aspiring pilot, I suppose.

I guess the question is, was he true to his word to "WRITE" a recommendation? I mean, it says,

Number of former BPIAA instructors currently working for an airline on his recommendation....ZERO!!!:nana2:

The statement is confusing to me.

As far as being overseas, I'd also check out the early termination procedures for getting OUT of China if one is not happy. Getting in is easy; it could potentially be a bear to leave.

Wow. 12 months after leaving China and BPIAA completely and 18 months since I was in a position to really make a difference, my name still comes up. Thanks guys!

But anyone who states that I told the instructors at Beijing PanAm what "they wanted to hear" must not have read the 20 pages of mostly negative commentary that was sent to every prospective flight instructor or the "Perspectives" article in this website. Both listed all the reasons NOT to come to China.

Did I try to move the company forward while I was there and in a position to do so, yes! And during that time I maintained a positive outlook about the future. But we all have learned how slowly general aviation and flight training is developing there. And we all have learned way more then we ever wanted to know about traditional Chinese management styles! It will be many more years before the training environment (outside that developed by CAFUC which has been in the business for 50 years) improves substantially.

OK, I need help finding the link.

PM,

I was never sent 20 pages of detailed information regarding BPIAA but that's a whole other topic.

Anyway, I actually liked China and the local people. It was BPIAA that was the disappointment. You did try to move the company forward and I was aware of your effort but you also had such a love affair with an idealistic and non attainable vision of what BPIAA would become during my contract period that I got tired of hearing about it over and over so six other instructors and myself bailed... Smartest move I ever did.

You probably arrived prior to fall 2005. If so, you were likely misled by the recruiters at that time.

And the problems there eventually caused me to leave, too.

At this point where we likely have different opinions is on the future of aviation including general aviation and flight training in China. I still see that future as bright and continue to be a part of that despite the fact that I am displaced geographically.

And despite all the problems encountered there I have more fond memories of that experience than miserable ones.

Please don't make decisions based on how it could make someone you've never met possibly maybe someday somehow perceive your patriotism! Do what you feel comfortable with and screw the people who would criticize you.

For the record, I'm having trouble imagining you'd ever run into this problem for having flown with a non-US carrier. That would be insanity! Working abroad reflects positively on your initiative and ambition.

EXACTLY!! Don't EVER worry about what others think... unless it's your boss.

Hi Gino! Hi Spaceman!

I will be back from vacation in a few weeks THEN I will start to look for a job, slowly no hurry but I except suggestions....

Here is the unbias deal (unbias! and I said so! LOL)

There are 4 places you can go. They all have different deals, some are new some are old, some are better some are worse depending who you ask

CAFUC Chinese Aviation Flight university college or something like that is in Shechuan province (You better like spicy food! did I said Ho Wuo) and close to a cool city Chendu, conections to everywhere in China and most places outside. They have been around for ever. They do hire foreigners but they do not pay that great and they do not recruit, the rest they do, you have to go to them.

BPIAA (AKA PanScam) 2 year old school , read in PPRUNE. DA40/42 Very cold inner mongolia low polution, if there is no sand storms from the gobi, close to Beijing www.panamaviation.com 18 month contarct

JTFA 6 months old still on the early stages. C-172R Da42 Cool city, well conected (qindao shangahi beijing xian), mild WX, low polution www.jtfa/cn/en 1 year contarct

Shenzhen the newest one! 3 months or so, I know people there but things do not seem to be moving yet. 3 year contract

Contact them all and "negotiate with them" do not just choose one, talk to all

People, if you go to china, go with the "#### all" attitude go as a drifter no goals no nothing, see what happens.
You go there get paid, save more than you EVER will probably save, live like a king, travel, enjoy the food, the woman/man and may be there is a bit of flying involved, do not trust anyone, and money up front please.

If you go to China with the "Can do attitude" that most pilots in the US have... you will feel frustrated in a few months and then demoralize, suicidal, etc. not good! just go with the I am going in a paid vacation and see what's up, because no matter how much you read and friends tell you you can not imagine the cleptocracy in China.
