Flight Instructor updates

I know a few Instructors got picked up for some UAV stuff and are leaving UND. Seems like a few spots will be open in August.

I heard it was 4000 and we're buying a new airport!

Honestly, I talked with Roesler we have NO idea yet. It could be 3, it could be 100. The needs forecast isn't done. We've had some leave, and we're getting some more cessnas so no idea.

Whomever gets hired though might be sitting on their hands for new air chinas to start in the winter.

An email was sent out basically saying those applicants who did not get hired will be placed in a hiring pool for use as a on need basis. So maybe they plan to hire on some, and start picking up the pool as needs increase.

I don't think UND has ever done a pool before, anyone else know?

Oh, we used to do Pools all the time.

It used to be we only hired in August and took from the pool as needed during the year. The big boom in hiring was what ended that. With the needs of Air China we're probably going back to it.

If I had my CFI w/ 'real world experience' but am still taking my 200 level AVIT courses, will that affect my chances of getting hired?

Nope, CFI and Dual given matter.

How do you have a CFI and didn't test out of the 200's. Is it 200's that aren't the flight courses?

I came in with my canadian certs... lol I had to fly the 105 course and sit in for 102 my first semester. it was a joke... Didn't really mind the flying as it allowed me to learn the G1000 and the 'UND way' of things.

I can test out of 200 level flight courses? Deets please! [=

Also, how does one have any 'Dual Given' if it's their first CFI gig? (assuming that they're hiring students of the program)

The only way you can test out of the 200 level courses is by already having your Commercial single and multi engine land + instrument rating. If you have all of them you can take the 325/103 checkride or w/e the number is now and if you pass they wave 221, 222, 323, and 325. They treat those 4 courses as an entire commercial course, its either all or nothing. To my knowledge there has only been 1 individual that has done this.

To answer your second question:
Almost 100% of the CFI applicants to UND have NO dual given. The path most take is get CFI/CFII done at UND and try to get hired.
