Flight Instructor updates

I like the bonuses at the end of the ear. Depending on how much you work you could come away with a big chunk of change. Wasn't it $2700 for 1200 hours of contact time?
 
Also heard instructors are no longer allowed to wear casual clothing except during special days. Use to be sundays and holidays in which casual type clothing was allowed, but now its all offical everyday. I don't think any student here cares whether or not their instructor dresses up with a shirt and tie or a polo shirt. But since the airlines dress up, UND has to too.

We just have to wear the UND flight ops polo on Sundays. I always wore mine on Sundays anyway so no change for me.
 
What should they be? Please enlighten us as to what non abysmal pay would be.

Why don't you enlighten us, on why you will stand up for UND no matter what? I mean there is no possible way that it has changed some since you went here or that they do not do something right :insane:

How is that standing up for UND? I aksed a simple question on what non abysmal pay would be. Since you went to UND for 2 semesters and obviously have it all figured out, why don't you clue me in as to what a flight instructor should be paid. At UND or otherwise.

I am betting the same clowns who come on here and complain about how much it costs to go to UND are the same ones who complain that their instructors dont get paid enough. Tell me all you economics majors, how are they supposed to keep costs down for you but raise the rates they pay employees? UND last I checked is a business and as long as someone is willing to work for the wages that they offer, the are probably paying enough. Besides from what Blip has written on here they look like excellent wages/benefits to me.

I have been here 3 semesters. So damn near half of my college career, so I think I have a pretty good idea of what UND is. It is a school where the administrators do not care about a single student because they already have 1000 in the Aviation department. This mentality is going to get UND no where in this very competitive market. UND has to change things if they expect to stay the powerhouse they once were.

I was speaking in general, whenever someone says anything against UND you stand up for it and immediately attack the person as stupid or not knowing what they are talking about. I think it should be obvious that something is going on at UND considering the multitude of people who are speaking out against it.

From being on the internet and researching, I do know that paying a CFI 15 dollars an hour is quite low. I am not stupid and know a lot more about this industry then you seem to give me credit for. I am not saying I know everything, but I do have a general understanding of things. As far as keeping cost down, I would not consider 300 dollars for a 1.5 hour flight and unnecessary time spent "briefing" to be "cheap" so where is all of the money going for that?
 
unless you go to a private college (huge cost) any college or university you go to won't care about you. I understand exactly what you are saying, but it is just a simple fact.

base rate where I work is 28$ an hour for instructor, with 20$ of that going direct to the instructors pocket.

a 2002-2004 172SP with six pack, moving map and gps is.... 114$ an hour wet. G1000 172 is 130$ an hour wet.

thats a really reasonable rate. instructors are also free to charge whatever they want BEYOND the base rate, so some of the older/more experienced instructors charge what they feel they are due, up to around 48$ an hour, and they have plenty of students.

so if youre trying to tell me a flight school cant be profitable with more modest prices, youre doing it wrong. and our flight school makes money hand over fist.

Where is this? Thats a great rate on aircraft. Are they currently hiring instructors or do they all work on a contract basis?

it is a great rate. contract/independent basis. i dont know if they are full on instructors per se, pretty sure you can always put your name on the roster and hunt for students. wanna move to sunny florida? might be too warm for ya ;-)

Individuals (professors/advisers etc.) should seek to inspire in my humble opinion. I do know what you mean though, it is generally very true sadly
 
That payscale really isn't that bad if you're averaging 100 hours billed a month all 12 months of the year. Not considering the cost of living in GFK and the fact that as a full-timer you have access to benefits. As previously pointed out, good luck finding a mom 'n' pop FBO that will do that.

Oh I am not interested in moving to Florida. Your right the heat is way too much for me. I instructed in Naples for a while and it was miserable anytime you were flying below 5000 ft. Not to mention nobody speaks english in the radios(sounds like gfk). So its all independant instructors? Does the flight school go out and find students or are the instructors responsible for finding students?

The word of mouth at the school is plenty to keep students flowing in. Good prices, and right accross the field from ERAU... gets all the guys who are fed up with ERAU nonsense but still want to fly.

Weird, I've heard that theme before...

Someone should do it on the field at GFK!

Yup. I'm seeing more and more people I know from ERAU figure that out. Granted, they aren't all going to the school you're at, but a majority of them are. If the new place can keep their prices where they are, they are going to start drawing more people in. Tough to beat 125/hr for a G1000 172 and 99/hr for a 172Q.
