Instructor Flight:

Oh, I have slipped the surly tie-down ropes of sketchy FBOs
And staggered through the sultry summer skies in underpowered trainers
Haze-ward I’ve climbed, and joined the cloistered chaos
Of the practice area, and done a hundred things you would quickly tire of—
S-turns, Chandelles and slow flight
Down in the heat soaked turbulence, sweating there
I’ve chased the semi trucks along the 4-lane and struggled
To maintain a positive rate through convective sinking air
And while with patient, resigned air I’ve mentored fledgling aviators
Pulled down my boom mic, and begged (again), “More right rudder."
