Flight Express Pilot w/ Alleged BAC of .27

Really though, that is pretty damn impressive.

In all seriousness, I would assume the dude has a pretty big problem if he's that coherent at .27 I've heard stories of guys going into full blown seizing withdrawal at over .20, and not even feeling drunk.

I think its safe to assume that in this case it wasn't one of those I had a "rough night" kind of deals, more of a I crashed the crew car into a light pole leaving the titty bar on the way to the airport kind of deals.

No kidding here:
When I was a Sheriff's Deputy, I arrested a guy that blew .37 about 30 minutes after his arrest! He had 6 open bottles in his truck and had been released a month earlier after spending 3 years in prison as a habitual offender. He was coherent and standing (although very shaky).

At one point I wasn't sure if I was checking his BAC or his ABC!!

Another member here has a portable breathalyzyer, I was kind of shocked that the highest I could ever record on it was the morning, waking up, before my wedding. Obviously a late night :) But every other time, it would have taken quite some effort to be above .08, and I think I only barely cracked that once. The Mrs. has no problem blowing way past that.

What exactly do they mean when they say he "refueled" and headed back to Florida?

Some one mentioned it earlier, but I always thought you should be able to apply for a higher/lower BAC license. Ya know, get loaded and drive a closed course at the DMV. Maybe walk out with a .10%. It would work the other way too, you could end up with a .03%. :)

5171V. If I ever see that thing again, I'm going to burn it down on general principles. I used to hang the chart bag off the left side of the yoke to keep it upright long enough to like look at a map without going inverted.

PS. This one

Frankly who wouldn't want to be drunk if you were flying a clapped out C210/U full of checks, bull semen and who knows what else towards a tropical storm?

This incident took place back on Dec. 8 . . . don't think there were any tropical storms hangin' around FL back then if I remember correctly

Ah N5171V, we have history but nothing news worthy

Yeah dunno what happened to that picture. But I'll tell you this, my friend, and you can take it to the bank. If they'd handed me the keys to a Bearcat, wonky stability or no, I'd still be at FLX! ...or possibly a Warlord...

Good catch, didn't see that. Any idea why is this making news now?
