Flight Engineers

HeyEng, it wasn't meant as a negative or to offend you or enlisted folk. Just wanted to make sure some recruiter was selling a line of BS. And I didn't know how easy it would be to go from the back thru OCS to the front. I am well aware of the fact that the FE seat is one of the hardest working seats on the plane and am very impressed with the quality and professionalism of the FE's that I fly with that are retired USAF.

BTW I only though IP's were god. At least that what was printed on a seat in Tweet I saw. It said IP / aka god sits here.

I was just harassing you man...no hard feelings. I am an old salty crew dawg and do have a call sign that can't be repeated on the forums...so it's all good brotha'

The beauty of the FE jobs are that you have to be hired into it, so you may use a "recruiter", but they are only pushing paperwork...you will get the "low down" from the squadron that is hiring you.

I couldn't fathom moving from the right seat to your seat.....so many complicated things going on at your panel......

And as long as you yoke actuating monkeys understand that the FE is indeed the hardest drinking (uh, I mean working) member of the crew, then there won't be any problems. ;)

I'm 26 and over a year from my degree. That's strike one for me. The Air Force wants you to be under 27 with a degree in hand to be considered for flight school.

Strike two came when I spoke to the guard unit and they told me that they don't take pilots off the street like that. They'd rather have someone they know already, i.e. an FEX in their unit that's eligible to move up or another pilot from elsewhere in the military.

You're getting a bit of bad info. Certain Guard units may take mostly prior Enlisted guys - but a lot of them don't (just depends on where you want to live and what you want to fly). I'm 26, got picked up for a slot... non-prior...

If you can speed up your degree, it would be worth it for you.. most (not all) boards are usually in the summer time frame... you could certainly apply when you're 27 (30 @ UPT is the official cut-off - but there are always waivers for most things)... if it's what you want to do...sometimes when a door closes, you have to make your own.

btw - there have been people hired for a pilot slot that have finished up their degree while waiting for AMS (it could be up to a year)... they do take people who haven't completed (but are very close) to getting a degree

www.baseops.net is a good source for info

www.wantscheck.com has a list of most of the units (some have been BRACd)

Good luck in your quest!

You have a bad attitude.

I think you should take an active-duty tour across the way as a MTI on a 4 year controlled tour......

:D

No way Mang! They wouldn't release me for MTI duty if I wanted it. I am doing M-model stuff now and the Dover OG superintendent would like me to go to Dover to help stand up the school house. I politely declined and informed him of my AAC that will keep me right where I am until the magical punch out time. I have enjoyed the AF quite a bit, but it will soon be time to do something else.

We could talk for a long time on this. Was fun for me too in the beginning, but went rapidly downhill in the fun factor as time went on.

Don't get me wrong...it's been a great run. I got to do some kick ass things and have seen things that people only dream of. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a strong 8.5 But....I have never really "bled blue" and in many ways, it's been a job vs. a way of life and when you have been in over 18 years, the lack of "AF spirit" becomes a drag to one's career. I am at the point in my career that I either move along, or go do the things I hate the most...playing the political games. So...I will be moving along, but taking with me some awesome memories!

One of these days we'll get to meet and we can chat at length and enjoy some cold beverages!

If you're there in the January timeframe, I have to go to C550 recurrent at SAT.
