After 20 years, my LW looked more like a Borg. Bits of random machinery interspersed with organic matter.

My Briggs bag is now 5 years old, and other than changing wheels is holding up well. And it's been abused in various ways, including but not limited to commuting, 'careful' handling by the SEA and LHR ramp workforces as a checked bag, etc.

I'm keeping the briggs as a spare bag, but I plan to replace the wheels.

I'm surprised your FOM doesn't prohibit it.

Our new overlords don't allow the use of a backpack (even when clipped to luggage) so I've got to replace my "flight case" with something else. Which is unfortunate (but apparently very on brand) because my backpack flight case doubled as a get out and do stuff/photography gear bag on long overnights.

Taking liberties with the phrase “conservatively styled” fpr the bag for sure, though I’ve been oddly surprised of late looking at appearance and grooming standards at the things either not explicitly spelled out, things given @Autothrust Blue levels of vague direction, or that is explicitly allowed. Given the rather specific image of a pilot corporate has there’s a lot of wiggle room.

But even before the recent uniform snafu you could stand three pilots next to each other and see three different shades and styles of “black” pants. For all their machinations re: uniforms there’s a lot of work they need to do on simply ensuring uniformity. But at least backpacks are allowed. Though admittedly beyond the LEGO head name tag my bag is as generic and off the shelf uninteresting as the day it arrived in a box at my doorstep. Laziness is a powerful enemy.

The amount of random stuff I've managed to cram into that thing is amazing. I even use some of it too on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, doing the work I do doesn't give me the ability to step outside the terms of the FOM. It makes it very easy for the company to undermine things I say or advocate for during meetings (negotiations or contract/pilot defense work) if they can point out that I don't follow the rules as currently written. Same reason I wear my hat despite thinking it looks ridiculous when in just a shirtsleeve shirt.

It's kind of like when you have a checkairman lecturing you mid flight on things in the FOM or FCOM, while sitting in the seat and texting their buddies via wifi about going fishing the next day.

Funny, I had a very similar thought. My flight bag doesn’t work for the way I pack now, but I’m hesitant to drop 200+ on another bag just to find out that doesn’t fit the mission either.

I need a haircut (well, I think I need a haircut, cc: @Karnage 's observations above re: appearance standards, and Han Solo asking in an indignant tone "WHO'S SCRUFFY-LOOKING") but there just isn't time this week.

Nice thing about going to Hawaii is not needing to take the horse blanket next month, though.

Nah, it’s not really the money. It’s the hassle of researching, waiting for something to show up, trying it out for a trip or 2, finding it’s not quite right, lather rinse repeat, oh and now I’ve got 2 or 3 that don’t work for me that i have to try to sell online, and I just hate that whole consumer process.

Maybe I should look on eBay first.
