Flight Academies

I know there is an RAA in Phoenix, and thought I heard of one in FL, but I don't know much about either. I think the one in PHX is fairly new, so I haven't heard much about them.

Windwalker I also requested info from Regional Airline Academy...they called back today...I'm supposed to call this guy from there tomorow. I'm gonna find out about their program and prices..I'll let ya know. Anybody know anything about ATP instructors ? Things like pay, schedule, relocation, how many hours they log per week, etc...anything like that. Most likely ATP is where i'm going..and when i finish of course i'm gonna try to get hired with them as an instructor.

RAA and DCA both peddle bu!![censored] in their advertising. Run away!

Tab Express doesnt even give you your CFI tickets so cross them off.

Why not look into some local FBO's or flying clubs instead of doin a huge relocation and vow of poverty. The airlines dont give a damn where you train.

A former student of mine went there. He's currently instructing with them. They pay $1000/month flat with a $200 housing allowance if you want it (most people take it). In return for being a slave, you log 100-120 hours a month multi depending on location. They have a letter with Xjet - they'll interview at 500 TT. Wish I had done it !

Ever consider helicopter flying? You could work for the aviation unit in a fire department. Here in my county there are a few of them and one of the requirements is to have gone through fire academy. The requirements were also not that high, around 600 TT . I am sure they change, come hiring time for them. Sweet a!s job if you ask me. I think DCA is a great school, you get your money's worth. Their bs hooks do suck though, you can get good quality training elsewhere and cheaper. I wouldn't consider them on the basis of their CFI interview then the regional interview, it's just an attention getter. Go for quality, not what they promise, everyone can make promises, and just as easily back out on their word.

I considered it until I saw the price tag on non-military helo training. Yikes! Plus, you need massive connections to get a decent helicopter job. If you're non-military, it's probably easier to land a corporate fixed wing job.

I was looking into ATP ... I'm pretty sure it's not an allowance. What happens is ATP allows instructors to stay at the apartments for $200/month. Still not bad when you consider apartments at best are $500-$600 + and then utilities on top of it.

$200/month including utilities is a pretty good deal.

Rotor time doesn't count for crap if you want to fly for the airlines. Sorry.

Why does everyone think the airlines are the end-all be-all?

But Mike! It airlines are the best! Didn't you see that movie with DiCaprio where he pretended to be a pilot. He even got to sleep with Jennifer Garner! Ladies throw themselves at airline pilots. Why would you want to fly anything else?

Currently working as a firefighter/paramedic.

What is your current schedule? If you work the typical 24/48 shift that a lot of fire departments work, stay put! I'm currently training two firefighter/paramedics who work in Gwinnett, GA. They have full time pay, benefits and fly 4-5 days a week.

If all else fails, apply for a job in Gwinnett and I'll train you!

Welcome,
My advice as a RN. Do NOT let your FF/EMTP expire. If you can go be a voly somewhere to keep your skills up. I know a former paramedic that became a pilot, got an airline job and was furloughed and let his cert expire. Lets just say is was SOL.
