"US Airways flight 1549 pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger described the ordeal as "surreal."



Is it just me, or does any one else think good ole sully is really missing a HUGE opportunity to talk about the pilot profession. About how important it is to have qualified professionally trained, properly rested crew up front. Pilots do not usually get a world wide audience to talk to, usually when we make the news it goes something like "the pilot WAS..."!

I would think his union officials would have encouraged him to speak out for the profession. Just my thoughts on it!

Maybe he's not a "public figure" kind of guy?

He's a pilot, who showed up to work one day, just like any of you/us, and something extremely extra-ordinary happened on his flight. He didn't choose to become the nation's next hero, he just went to work and did his job, and as a part of that job ended up being instrumental in the safe outcome of what could have been a much worse situation.

Perhaps he doesn't seek the limelight.... Give him some time to decide where he wants to go with this. It only happened a few weeks ago.

My experience with guys like this is they have a quiet confidence and don't like to be the center of attention. He did what needed to be done, good job, what's next?


I'm willing to bet in school he was the guy who sat in the back never saying a word and no one messed with him.

That seems to be a very true assessment of him from what I've gathered. I think what the OP is saying though is also true. I mean in a few weeks, if not less, something else will grab the public eye and people won't hardly remember this. If he is even anywhere close to thinking about speaking up, he better do it now while he still has some spotlight.

Actually an easy going guy who was/is just one of the guys from my contact with him.

Actually an easy going guy who was/is just one of the guys from my contact with him.

I don't mean that he is unapproachable, I was meaning that I'd bet no one ever poked him with a stick. I'd actually be surprised to find out he wasn't a very affable and enjoyable person.
