Flew the TBM700 today

What a sweet airplane to fly! Flew serial number 283 to Nashville from PDK this morning and the salesman offered me the left seat. Very cool!
It's a busy little bird though and 200 knots is very easily obtained. I held 140KIAS out of PDK and saw a climb rate of 1600fpm - nice! Descending into Nashville pulled the power back to about 200 pounds of torque and 1000 fpm which kept me nicely at 200 KIAS once I leveled off I was able to put in a notch of flaps and then dropped the gear which gave me 120.
90 KIAS on the approach with landing flaps and the prop full forward was also easy and it handles beautifully. Landing is a non-event, you just fly in an almost level to slightly nose up attitude holding enough power to maintain 90kts and once you're in ground effect you chop the power and hold it off. No need to use reverse as you're pretty quickly below 60 kts so its really just a case of going into Beta and using that to slow down as well as maintain a decent speed while taxiing.

With full flaps on the approach it takes on a pretty pronounced nose down attitude which gives you a decent view of the runway. The controls felt nice and light - I would say they were only a little heavier than the Baron and maybe about the same as the C340.

This one is the 700C2 which has a better useful load than the earlier 700's. I thought I would need to be more agressive with rudder on takeoff but it really wasn't that bad, it has a neat rudder trim switch on the yoke and a mark on the trim indicator for takeoff. The trick is to remember to trim it out when you nose over for cruise.

The Boss is seriously thinking about getting one of these if a few deals come together. I hope we do!

Flying this back to PDK this afternoon and then Columbia SC in the C340 on Wednesday then back to Nashville Thursday - things are picking up.

Nice! Are you guys thinking of adding a 700?

EDIT: Saw the bit about the boss thinking about buying one. Reading comprehension...fail!

Awesome sounds like fun!! I flew out of PDK this morning as well, surprised I didn't see/hear ya'll.

We were in 700SY - departure was around 8:45 this morning. Got back this afternoon around 3:45pm in the middle of a thunderstorm, but no problem. Evidently the boss is cooking a couple of deals that could mean we get into this airplane fairly soon.
I was very impressed with it overall - reliability of a turboprop and operating costs that are not much higher than the Baron.
We cruised home at FL210 and had a great ride. I love the IAS function on the autopilot which is so much nicer than the VS function. I dialed in 150KIAS on the climb and it still held better than 900fpm right up into the flight levels.

I have a big smile today!

Ha ha! Nice one! - Man I hope we get this airplane, its a delight to fly.
Going to be a big reality check flying the 340 on Wednesday.

Very cool.

The IAS function on most autopilots tends to oscillate during turbulence. I always found the VS function to be much more desirable overall.

If you have pics, post them!

That's AWESOME.

The TBM (any series, although the 850 would be nice) is on my long list of airplanes to fly.

We had an 850 come in today at work with the G1000...I was very jealous. Very, very, very nice airplane.

I've found that IAS works best in climb and VS works best on descent (IAS mode chases the desired speed around descending).

Found it good on the climb - used the VS mode on descent and it worked well.

Here is a pic of the machine:

I took off from PDK around 10:30 a.m and came back around 12:45, so I just missed you! Sounds like an awesome plane to fly. I always wanted to fly a PC-12, but I think I could make due with the TBM!! I couldn't even get my little airplane up to 21,000!

I assume that picture of the TBM is at PDK on the Atlantic West Ramp? The flight school I fly out of (Quality Aviation) is also located on the west ramp. I'm flying again on Wednesday and Thursday, so maybe I'll see you around PDK?

Btw-nice picture.

The TBM is an elegant piece of machinery. If I ever won the lottery, I would have one sitting in my hangar, more than likely a C2.

I'm flying Weds and Thurs in the 340 but its all out of FTY.

The pic was taken right outside Atlantic and the dealership is right next door to Quality. I think they sahre the same building.

Might be back in at PDK if we get a King Air trip, but we usually pick up and drop off at Jetfueling. Last one we did was short notice to SSI and we didn't hang around for long when we dropped the pax off.

If you hear 57AG or 84GR on the freq that will be me!

I actually might be over at FTY on wednesday and thursday practicing some stuff and getting ready for my CFI ride in a couple of weeks if everything goes well! I'll be over there around noon if we end up heading out that way.

I'll be listening for you and if you hear Sierra 18841 that should be me!

The 700 is a great airplane, I flew one a few years ago...292 KTAS at FL260 and roughly 60/gals-hour...loved it!

If either of y'all hear 17AM on ATL Approach, that's us headed somewhere...or just come on up to Cherokee County one day and I'll show you around.

I normally fly around 47A a lot, but I haven't been up that direction recently. I really want to check out that new FBO ya'll have too! Maybe I'll drive up there tomorrow if I have nothing to do. Are you going to be around tomorrow?

I think I saw you guys taxi out this morning. I had to move one of our DA20s from PDK to LZU. I was there around 8:30. If that was you it looked like a nice aircraft.

Well I guess the Bahamas isn't a bad place to be! I might not have time to drive up there anyways tomorrow, maybe I'll stop in when I fly up there again. I'll let you know when I'm going to stop in. Have fun in the bahamas.
