FIT Aviation?!

Yes, I go there now. With this type of thing you will have the age old debate of whether an aeronautical college will suit you better than a state university and an FBO. FIT is, in my opinion, a good place to get an aeronautical education. However it is expensive as hell and that is a major drawback. Personally I feel that some of the courses that I am taking now and have taken in the past are invaluable to my understanding and becoming of a much more rounded pilot. Courses like aviation phisiology and aerodynamics. Courses like these that are specifically geared to us as pilots. Do you need these courses and understanding to become a pilot? No, but I am after more than just getting my ratings and for me FIT suits me well.

The University itself is old, there is no getting around that fact. Some of the professors are ancient as well and that affects the material being presented. My choice to attend was skewed because I live 30 minutes away from Melbourne and it was really convenient. I toured other colleges and at the time I hadn't found this web site to give me other options about doing an FBO and local college.

If money is an issue for you I really would urge you to reconsider because the classes are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Like I said I didn't know at the time and I'm already to far in to just go somewhere else.

The actual flight instruction at the airport is TOP NOTCH IMO. I've had awesome instructors who really cared about the student. They were looking to move on but were not a typical time builder. The chief instructor and assistent chiefs are awesome about getting you what you need and making sure you are happy. You can talk to them anytime and they will do whatever they can.

The aircraft we have now are older and are scheduled to be replaced. We should have the new seminoles next semester and the warriors will roll in after that.

All in all I have mixed feelings about FIT. I feel that in the end I made the right choice however I wish that I would have seen the other options before hand. I was alone in my choice in the fact that I am a first generation pilot and had no one to guide me.

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me if you have other questions or concerns.
