The first woman to fly China's J-10 fighter plane was killed in a crash during an aerobatics training exercise, state-run media reported Monday.

Yu Xu, 30, a member of the Chinese air force's "August 1st" aerobatic display team, ejected from her aircraft during a training exercise in the northern province of Hebei at the weekend, the China Daily newspaper said.

I read they had a midair collision, she ejected, and then her parachute/body was hit by another plane.

That's like a Final Destination death right there. Sad :(

Those things happen. Like my friend I mentioned a month ago in a post who did the rejected takeoff in his F-16 for unknown reasons, ejected from the jet as it was about to exit the runway after missing the arresting cable, the jet wrecked into the localizer antenna and caught fire, and his parachute carried him right into the middle of the burning wreckage.

Did he survive?

Didn't the first female USN fighter pilot die in a crash?

I had to Youtube this one. I did not know F-16 had tailhooks. I'm smarterer than when I woke up. :D

I'm shocked!

Very much like Mark McGeehan when he punched out of Bud Holland's colossal CF at Fairchild.

As a guy who has as high a chance as any of ejecting straight up out of a jet that then plummets straight down, this is probably one of my worst fears, right after the jet flopping over before I can get to the handle.

You need a steerable canopy. And to not be unconscious. ;)

Big difference there being that McGeehan was already well outside the ejection seat's operating envelope by the time he punched out. Sad and unfortunate, but he had no chance of survival once that nose committed down at that altitude.

My friend ejected well inside the seats operating envelope, but due to the lack of wind and where the jet ended up, he drifted down to where he drifted down, which happened to be the burning wreckage.

Makes you wonder what she had on Hillary that caused her to have this "accident"! ;)

The RAF wears similar leather gloves. When broken in, they are way more comfortable than the US-issued Nomex gloves.
When I was based in Korea they issued us brown leather flying gloves, both a warm weather pair and a lined, cold weather pair. They were my favorite gloves ever.
