I just flew my first solo out of gky! it was great!
wind was 330 at 14-17, using runway 34 so it was really cool.
the combo of the headwind and no instructor got me to pattern altitude before i even turned crosswind! what a great experience, i'll post pics in the pictures thread later today. man did my shirt get butchered :)

sidenote: i've always wanted to fly, but just never took that first step. it was only when i got on here and read about how much fun alot y'all were having, so i finally called up one day and got started. So doug, thanks for startin jc, everyone thanks for being supportive/helpful.

check out those pics!

Congratulations on your first solo! A whole new world awaits you as you begin cross country flights! Have fun!

thanks alot guys!! i'll have my pics up as soon as my roomie lets me on his comp!!

i dont think i've gone for a period of more than 5 minutes today without smiling or looking at some of the pictures i took!! im having a heck of a time writing a paper right now!!

Cograts, man. I'm not sure, but I THINK you might have even been Melissa's first solo sign off. Then again, I'm pretty out of the loop.

I had to say it....

thanks steve!

i think the second sentence looks better without the words "solo sign off." :)

meh, i thought it was clever

Congrats man! I feel way behind. My CFI says I am doing well, but I am near 30 hours an have not soloed. The main reason may be because of my money problems and thus the inability to fly for a weeks on end. That is over now, so I am flying 4-5 times a week, but I feel like I should have soloed by now. Plus, getting a new CFI means time spent reviewing me. She had to go up with me and practice steep turns, stalls, slow flight, etc to see where I was. I have been doing really well on the landings for the last few lessons, but had a bad day today--my biggest problem is the flare but I think that is because I keep forgetting to look down the runway, just not right in front of me. Also, I keep landing on the left of the centerline lol. My approaches are generally good though. But my CFI said it is okay, because we all have bad days. I am going back tommorow. I hope I can solo Saturday at the latest! Gee, you are making me so anxious!!! No more breaks for me, because it is costing me more!!!! Anyway, hijack/rant over. Word of advice to you: the moral of this rant is stay consistent! Do not take breaks unless you MUST. It costs more.

That's correct, first signoff.

I assure you Melissa was at least as, or possibly more nervous than you were today :)

Congrats again man.

thanks ready, nate, theo!

yes, it felt awesome!!

john,
i had NO idea i was her first solo sign off! she said she had 650 hrs on our first flight (2/9), and shes always pretty busy on the schedule.
I wasnt nervous at all, until i was leveling off for landing #1, and a couple knots of my headwind dropped off, the horn blared at me, and started to sink lil fast! added some power and "greased it" :)
I'm "fixin' to" (belated welcome to tx) post my pics from today, including yalls butchering of my shirt!
ps- should i tone down all the hardcore weightlifting i do? did i scare yall with the guns?
