Greetings to all and thanks to Doug on the great site! After undertaking a cross country move to Newport News, VA from the Seattle area (courtesy of the Navy)I have finally set up shop and decided to stop lurking and come out of the shadows.
My background is as a Naval Flight Officer, and I have just started working on a PPL out here at KPHF. I'm also a VT alum (go Hokies!), I know there are a few of you out there, and apparently Doug and I are fellow Theta Xi's (Beta Omega at VT).

Anyway, looking forward to picking all of your brains about civilian flying and swapping "sea stories" etc. And I hereby promise to NEVER PFT (the JC golden rule?)

Cheers!

I instructed for a short time at Rick Aviation there at PHF... That was a few years ago though, just prior to 9/11 and shortly after then until I went on deployment on the Truman.... Who's your instructor?

Welcome aboard!

Hi, my name is FlyNavy, and I have been a lurker. . . . for a long time.

Welcome out of lurkdom. Delurking is the best, but you only get to do it once

[/ QUOTE ]Hey Grabo I knew you were in the Navy, but I didn't know you had been stationed on the Truman. Did you know any of the FC Sparrow techs? My "C" school class leader was stationed there around that time I believe.

I can't remember his name, but one of the FCs went through chief's initiation with me... darn it... hmmmm I know I know it...

I'll probably remember at 3 am...

Name wasn't Pedersen was it? He was a first class when we were in "C" school. Time frame sounds about right for him to put on Chief on the Truman.

Actually I think it was Peterson... not sure if you meant that or not. Tall lanky guy?

Damn, thought I was going to have one of those "small world" stories.

Yeah, the FC1 I was talking about spelled his name that way with a "d", and he was short not tall and lanky at all unless you're like 2' tall.

Before he went to SeaSparrow "C" school he was a recruiter and before that was a weapons tech on frigates.

*Sorry for the thread hijack, FlyNavy. As you were.

I'm flying with Gary, I think he might have been there for a while. Middle aged guy, does most of their traffic. Was Marshall the chief pilot when you were there? He's a character.

Class of 1995, College of Aerospace & Ocean Engineering. I did the whole NROTC / Corp of Cadets thing.

How 'bout you?

I was Hotel '95. What are you doing in Vegas? It was like my 2nd home when I was in my squadron, we did exercises at Nellis 3-4 times a year.
