hi everyone, i'm going to come out of lurker mode and let everyone get to know me. first off, this is a wonderful site. it's full of great, valuable information that has kept my attention for hours and hours. the members seem friendly and i enjoy that. from my little experience in the aviation world, the majority of people seem to be kind individuals who are easy to get along with. i'm thinking the reasoning behind this is that we all have or have had similar goals.
my name's patrick, i'm seventeen years old. i live in northeastern ohio and am an aspiring pilot. i've never had any other career goals set in stone so it makes sense to get a college degree to be a pilot, right? i've talked to many many pilots, (mom works for united) and they've said the same thing as literally everyone on this forum. "Do not get a degree in Aviation."
I understand this and the principles behind it, and i'm still looking for advice on what to do. right now, i've applied to three colleges. (Ohio University, Kent State University, Bowling Green State University) all have aviation programs and i'd like to be involved in one somehow. this is what i'm thinking: major in an area in some way related to aviation (or any other area that i may become interested in), and minor in flight technology to get my necessary licenses and ratings. is this a good idea, a bad idea? the major i'm most interested in is the aeronautical systems engineering degree at ksu, although i'm not exactly sure what possible career paths are.
alright so help me out. feel free to throw out some ideas, opinions, suggestions, ect.
thanks so much for any help
