First LONG flight in a small plane

Hope you are having a good trip. I feel your pain on the "diversion". Was coming back after some good seafood down in Corpus when half way home, it was time to pay the price. Thank God I found an airport and got it down just before I made the trip a little "unpleasant" for my passenger. Had I been 5 more minutes down the way, it would have been a different story.

I forgot about a little trick some guys use on long flights.

I know you already left, but here's the trick for others anyway...

Bring a fairly long but small hose with you. Like 1/4 diameter or less.

If you fill up your bottles and think you might need more space, stick one end of the hose in a bottle and the other end out the window. As it dangles in the slipstream the bottle will be emptied via suction.

That's a trick some of our navajo drivers used to use when I was still doing flying in AK.


You want the hose to be long enough that it's comfortably past the end of the window...
 
:insane::insane::insane::insane: Wow. It's over. I'm home and safe. I've dodged thunderstorms, flew IFR into a new airport in heavy rain and overcast. Flew over moutains. And I did it all over 2 days. 1 Day to get there. (13.8 hours hobbs) and 1 day to get back (also 13.8 hobbs) Had to divert around a big thunderstorm on the way there and had headwinds all the way home. Great time. More story later. Sleep now :-)

13.8 in a day in a little plane doesn't sound like a lot of fun. The most I have done is about 11 and I slept for 2 days after the fact...no AP or passenger to keep me entertained!
