First Flight

Pilot and A Half (for now
I went for my discovery flight this morning. I had scheduled a C172, but when I arrived they told me they had to switch to a Warrier because the 172 was in for the 100 hour. We almost had to change planes again after the pre-flight, but we were able to get the landing gear fixed. The CFI I had left me take off and land. The first landing was alittle rough, so he asked if I wanted to try again. We went around and I got to land a second time. Right after we landed, a C172 landed bouncing down the runway. In the air, there were several planes (most of them CAP, a few ultra-lights) we had to avoid. He said he had never seen so much air traffic there (besides Sun N' Fun). We ended up flying for an hour. It was a great first flight.

Warriors sucks at landing, but I sure do love the throttle lever:)

:yup:

Damn near impossible to grease a warrior in for landing (take a rest on the ego's) and they have no circulation! Summer months in any kind of piper is torture :banghead:

Great Job on your first flight!!! Instructor did his job if you had fun as well as learned something. I myself am a Cessna fan but Warriors are not on the "yucko" list.

I was thinking about asking to try a 152 on my next lesson. Is there a big difference in the planes?

I remember training in 150s and 152s thinking, "I can't wait to get into something bigger." Now that I'm flying turbine aircraft, the 150/152 is my favorite airplane to fly.

Flying a 152 is like riding a scooter-
It's cheap and it's fun as heck, but it doesn't go very fast and doesn't get you many cool points.

I always thought Warriors were the way to go, probably a bias developed by the fact that's all my school had when I was a student. Actually we had the old school Cherokees with the trim wheel crank thing in the ceiling. Now that was fun!

If you're just looking to get a PPL and that's it, fly whatever you like, if you're planning a career of it, airlines don't really care what you trained in...Heck I got my PPL in mix of 172's and a good 30 hours of a Cirrus SR20. Cool at the time, but I could have gotten a whole lot more bang for my buck in a 152. (I guess the only plus is that I can say I have some glass time.)

Glad you had a good first flight!!
