Gday all, how yas doing?

I took my first pax up on sunday!!!! We took off from Bankstown Sydney and out to the training area!!!
Did a few steep turns and the fellas couldnt get enough.
They loved it!
had a video camera in the back, so got footage of my approach into Bankstown, was good! To my luck i even made a sweet-smooth landing!
Feels so much better going up in command than with an instructor...you just know your in control of the aircraft!

Anyone else get that feeling?

I cant wait to do a nav with mates!!!

That's awesome Aussie. It's a very cool feeling to take up family and friends and show them what you have worked so hard on. I bet there are some beautiful places to fly in Australia. Have fun and be safe!

Grats! One of the most gratifying things to get up there with some people and no instructor for the first time. It's like that realization, OMG I'm really a pilot!!

Hope you have some good times! Be safe and take pictures for us, I wanna see some Aus. from the air hehe

I remember it well. It is a good feeling.

Your next big test comes when you have to make a PIC decision that might dissapoint your mates. Like, sorry can't go there today, too much wind. Or, sorry can't take you all, too heavy for this short runway. Remember the only real reason you have a PIC in an airplane is to say no. Otherwise we are all just airplane drivers.

I haven't been to Australia yet, but I definitely plan to come. You guys must have pretty good flying weather down there.

Wow, this thread has made me realize I've never taken up a non-pilot passenger.

My dad, my husband, the few friends I took up.......were all pilots also!

(I need more friends........)

Yeah, the guys i took up are from the RAAF so they have an aviation interest but they arent pilots, so it was good to be PIC, and ive already had to leave one behind due to MTOW being exceeded.

Weather is good most time, depends on where in Oz you are, still rains here ect. so you have ups and downs, just no snow or Tornadoes to worry bout! hehe

Take it easy fellas

Sounds like you passed "the test" with flying colors. Aussies may be naturals at this: "no worries".

Cheers,

Dave

Isn't it true in AU you can take peopel up before you get your license? I remember talking to someone about it - it might only be one person, but I think I remember that.

No worries....haha, ye we dont even realize we say it half the time, however you forgot the Mate at the end! hehe

Yeah its true, you can fly solo at 16, but cant drive a vechicle by yourself until 17...go figure!
hehe

Congrats Aussie - the view only gets better from here

Iain - couldn't really believe it either myself when I first arrived. In Australia you don't need your full license to take friends up - all you need is a GFPT (General Flying Progress Theory/Test) . It's actually a written and a flight test you take after about 20hrs that lets you take passengers up (obviously with instructor permission) into the training area, but not outside of it. Such a different concept but I reckon Transport Canada and the FAA should consider it.
