First drones now a 767 fleet?

I think that would be fantastic. I no longer shop at box stores as everything is waiting for me when I get home. Conveniently at my front door. Plus I get movies and audiobooks for free. I love me some Amazon.

They've been utilizing E120s for a while doing cross country runs and its no surprise that it will escalate to full transport size aircraft. Once their logistics are near fully vertically integrated they will be hard to ever compete with. In the metro areas you can get many products same day now. Just shuttling some items between warehouses via air it'll be between that and a local courier service to totally bypass the traditional brown and purple.

Wouldn't be surprised if this eventually occurs. My biggest surprise from Amazon this year has been Sunday delivery via some random courier service.

I read about this on "the other site".

They are using a 121 supplemental carrier to haul the freight. Forgot the carrier, I want to say it was one of the DHL ones. There was some "codename" for it too. All very hush-hush.

Yup, same here . . . I ordered a digital multimeter from Amazon on Friday and it was delivered on Sunday . . . heard the doorbell ring but by the time I got to open the door the delivery service person was gone!

They were calling it Aerosmith, supposedly.

ATI has been flying a 767-200 into OAK for Amazon for a while now. Parking in an odd spot too, over by the retired and donated FedEx 727 by the North Field rather than with FedEx, UPS, and the others.

One interesting note...first part said they were upset at UPS for how they handled the issues of few years ago. Like Amazon can control the weather.

Nice discussion. The electronics system on the E-767 is essentially the same as the later E-3 models, using Northrop Grumman's (formerly Westinghouse Electronic Systems) AN/APY-2 Passive electronically scanned array radar system.

It could all be a play to negotiate with UPS and FedEx. Based on what I know about other areas, I see it as completely plausible that Amazon would experiment with air cargo just to negotiate lower rates with the cargo haulers.

If Amazon sets up a complete shipping operation, shipping its own products, could it conceivably run as a pt 91 operation, since they are shipping their own freight?

They would set up an LLC, no reason to run the liability risk. Even its part 91, why would it matter ? Being safe is being safe .
