Meanwhile ORD people are laughing...
I would just sit and wait for them to call me. Paid by the minute right? Ain't nobody got time for all that jibber jabber. You just wait. Eventually they'll be shoving you through DEN on a regular basis.
Denver ramp is a total party sometimes. We're pushed off the gate along with 3 on our right and 3 on our left. We're all trying to get a word in on top of all the noise. "6355, green line abeam 54, break uhhh ok ahhh sorry guys I gotta untangle this mess 328 you on? 328??? *Silence* "brrrrt-squeall-screachhhhh-ush off 82" *silence* "whose calling for push off 82?" "ramp Unit- squeal screech bzzz 3 echo gate 44" mean while captain is telling me "you just gotta jump in man just get on the radio until you can get him to talk to us...." I'm thinking to myself. Well what do you think I've been trying... I've already talked on top of other guys accidentally 5 times already... I'm trying... Lol
My favorite was one of the even gates right on the end. I was accidentally calling north ramp when I needed to call south ramp. A pilot speaks up "hey gate 94 talk to south ramp." Captain and I were relieved north ramp was being run by the person that sounds stressed all the time and stressed everyone else out. South ramp was running a lot more smoothly.

Some people are too anxious.Well, you know. That's what I would've done, and seemed to make sense at the time because eventually ramp sees he's got 10 planes pushed and they're all ready for taxi so he just tells them all to go, but when the captain is sitting there telling you to jump on the radios you're compelled to try even though you know it's in a vain pointless attempt...
I did my first airline IOE out of O'hare....This nice thing was, I didn't have to read back the taxi clearance cause ground doesn't give a (you know what)....which was good because I was so lost that saying I was "holding onto the tail" would have been a generous compliment ha.I remember my first leg of IOE landing 16R DEN...we're rolling out, Captain says "my controls and get yer pen ready, he's going to give you some taxi instructions you'll need to write down". I think "write down? Can't be that bad".
ATC speaking at 100mph: "Air Shuttle 7030, taxi delta delta five whiskey bravo golf charlie sierra to the ramp".
Me: "What did he just say?"
Captain - laughing "I told you to get yer pen ready!"
Is that ramp controller still there that clears planes for the push and then calls them back like halfway through the push and asks if they are ready to taxi/steps on everyone else thats trying to call?Who doesn't enjoy B concourse ramp control in Denver during the 10 am bank?. To be honest that's the only time Denver really gets messy, with the exception of weather days.

Yes. That's pretty much what the last page and a half was about. Is that ramp controller still there that clears planes for the push and then calls them back like halfway through the push and asks if they are ready to taxi/steps on everyone else thats trying to call?

"Puddle jumper 123 is ready to taxi."
"And break, United 2000, you ready to go yet?"
"That was Puddle jumper 123 calling."
"And break. Ok. Ah, United 2000, I'll call you back. 456 you ready?"
"Still puddle jumper 123 calling."
"And break. Ah, ok. Let's see here..................................................................(that's him keying the mic and taking up air time) and break, ah, 4377 you ready?"
"Sir, we are the only plane pushed back from the gate right now. Puddle jumper 123 taxi."
"And break, ah, ok, hold on a minute guys, ramps busy. And break."
Back to regularly scheduled programming, @ryan4sail congrats on starting IOE! Before you know it you'll be just as confused as the rest of us.
When I did IOE at Eagle I was paired up with a notoriously grumpy captain who proceeded to scream, yell, throw hissy fits, and generally make me feel awful for 4 days. Not once did he try to teach or explain anything. Great experience![]()
