Well, I put in 4 weeks notice at my employer thinking I was being extremely courteous and wanted to make sure they had lots of time to plan for when I wouldn't be there. Whelp, another instructor called me today told me that the husband of the owner of the company was in my office packing all my stuff in to boxes (today was my day off) I show up to ask him what he is doing, and he tells me along with the new chief pilot that my services are no longer required and I'm to leave.

The owner and my direct supervisor have no idea of what is going on, so it seems like something someone did in a hurry. With all my stuff crammed into boxes and bent up, I fished out my timesheet and turned it in upstairs, as the husband of the owner was in such a hurry to get me out that he didn't realize I still needed to turn in my last timesheet. Anyway, thus ends one and a half years of flight instructing. I wanted to end on a cordial note, but it seems my employer was intent on it not ending that way. Did I have it coming? Maybe I really should have only put in 2 weeks notice, or none at all. In the end it is not all bad, now I can file for unemployment until I start my new job on the 21st!

Seems like someone had it in for you, that's really weird. You might want to see what they have on your PRIA paperwork just in case.

Seeing as how my direct supervisor who will be doing the PRIA was confused as to why I was packing up, I doubt it will show up, but yeah I asked for a copy of the PRIA paperwork, thanks for the advice though!

Employed from date X to date Y? Yes. That's all that will be there.
It's not like they can write a novel with the thing.

Yes file for unemployment. You gave 4 weeks notice and are ready and able to work. They accepted your resignation but accelerated the date. It's not a firing. You can get three out of the 4 weeks depending on your state law.

Yeah.. I hadn't really thought about it like that. Thanks for the perspective, I appreciate it!

How so? Kind of curious as to what all goes in your PRIA stuff since I don't know a lot about it. I thought it was just checkride busts, etc.
When I submitted PRIAs it was whatever paperwork they submitted (varied by company, some asked nothing but dates of employment, some asked long, detailed questions), copy of your initial 8410, last 8410, and any busts. This was for a 135 outfit.

When I was fired a few years back it was during my two weeks notice. More of a "you can't quit, we fired you" type of thing. Last week the owner of the school contacted me and apologized for how I was treated, affirmed that I did in fact quit and that he has nothing but great things to say about me should they be contacted in the future regarding my employment.

So if I'm following, the owner's husband terminated you... and she (the owner) didn't even understand why?
Weirdos.

I'd ask the CP to write you a recommendation letter. Might be a nice way to back up the story if it ever needed to be told (though I'd avoid bringing it up in an interview unless required).

That sounds truly screwy to me. Sadly so many flight schools are accustomed to treating their flight instructors like dung that they won't even give an instructor the right to quit on them.

Do you mind whether I ask which school this was, and how your time spent there went overall?

A CFI job I had did this to me. They fired me and wouldn't give me a reason. I filled for unemployment and even though they lied when asked why I was terminated, I still won the claim. Nothing sticks it more to asshat employers then collecting unemployment.

Were you 1099? Can 1099 file for unemployment?
Oh yes, another way pilots are abused. I believe a certain large flight school* was recently cited by multiple states for this 1099 shenanigan stuff.

* They must remain nameless, but you get the idea.

Ya, that's generally considered fraud by the IRS iirc.
