I'd have to agree, live 2 day is probably the most engaging and network-y
About that time again (sigh). Trying to figure out which FIRC to do. So far I’ve used Sportys and ACE CFI. Didn’t like either of them.
Is there a FIRC whose content is actually interesting (i.e. doesn't feel like watching paint dry or death by PowerPoint?) Would like something engaging that requires user interaction, or good videos or something as opposed to just reading text on a screen and then taking a test when the time runs out. Maybe a podcast I can listen to in the car?

Just to necro-post, I just renewed mine. As is my custom, I tried something different since I had a little bit of time to play with, and did the King course.
It was, eh, above adequate, but only marginally so. Some of the videos were dated, but those were on topics that were timeless anyway, so no harm, no foul on that. I actually have a full run of ABC's Wide World of Flying, and at the end of every tape was a segment from the Kings, so it's like I looked through their whole family picture book through the years. Heads up: their FIRC does NOT work on their tablet app, and so you can't do it off line, which is a disappointment.
The paperwork part is hassle free. They send you the PDF temp via email.
After some self-reflection, I applaud their enthusisams over the years, and keeping at it for so long.
So to summarize my experience over the years:
Gleim (may he RIP): when you absolutely, positively have to get it done in a couple of days. Wall of text.
AOPA: Better production values, BUT, the last time I did their course (2021) it was wickedly out of date and stale, and seeing the same video of the same DPE got old after about the 6th video.
King: Somewhere in the middle. Some of the videos are a blast from the past.
The very last in person FIRC I did was Aviation Seminars in September, 2001. Brainiac here signed up for it because it said in was in my town, but doofus in me failed to check the address, and it was WAY on the northside, which took 45 minutes travel time each way.
And yes, the seminar was September 8-9, 2001. I got done with it, had one day thinking I had the tiger by the tail and nothing on my plate, and then the world went into the •ter.
I really wish someone would make one of these specifically tailored for airline pilots who haven’t even looked at a GA plane in years. I really don’t mind doing the refresher, but teach me less a bout iacra (other than where to find the user manual for if I ever need it) and more about all the stuff I haven’t done in years.
Like, subscribe and click the notifications bell so you never miss a new video. You may be on to something. I get asked a lot by friends at the airline what they need to know to get back into GA, and that could easily be expanded into a FIRC. If I had someone with some mad video skilz, I might put something together for YouBoobz.
But I find being lazy is more rewarding.
