Well, it would be a tough choice to make for both of you.

My wife and I did a 2 year long distance marriage. We were both school teacher. We saw each other when She and I have:

a. Money to buy plane tickets, and
b. time.

I finally move back to MI because my wife did not want to leave her current job and family / relatives. I quit my old job (which was a descent job for me). We had a lot arguements and discussion about career changing for about 3 years. I explained everything about aviation I know to her (Very big Thank you to all JC members, Doug and Kristie). She and I are preparing the change of our lifestyle. My advice is "Keep your goal in sight, Keep communicating with your sig. other."

Also consider that being at FSI will be temporary-especially if you work elsewhere as a CFI.

Another consideration is another flight school,like ATP. Their 90-day program appeals to many people because of the timeframe. You would be gone for a shorter amount of time.

Hey man, sorry about your situation! In my opinion, if she truly loves you, she will make the move! It is your responsibilty to take care of your family. It is HER responsibility to support you! She can go college down there. I am sure there is a good school close by. She can even do an online degree. There is no argument when it comes to attending college. If it is a matter of staying close to her family and friends, forget it. You are not getting married to her family! You are getting married to her! I say follow you dreams and she will follow you! If not, there are plenty of fish in the sea that won't mind you flying! I know this sounds harsh but none the less it is reality! Go for it!!! Follow your dreams!!!

Marriage is not about two people gazing into each other's eyes. It is about two people looking into the future in the same direction. It sounds as though you two are not "on the same page" as far as your life goals. Only two ways to deal with that. 1) One of you has to be willing to change those goals (not a good idea, you need to be who you are) or 2) You both need to move on. Think about it.

Seriously. Go to FSI (if you must); she can stay in UT. If your relationship grows and thrives despite the distance, your relationship will probably survive THE LIFE. If it doesn't work while you're at FSI, then you probably were not meant to have both her and THE LIFE. At that point, the choice is yours.

Jim Croce's first album "You don't mess around with Jim" is the source of the song quotes here. Jim died young in Sep 1973, just as his musical career was starting to really take off. In a plane crash, of course.
